You may have either a burned off wire in the back or more than likely it is a bad themal overload switch. It is located under the top of the dryer at or near the drum. Bypass it and see if it runs then. If so, replace it about $20. I am assuming you have checked the breakers. Turn them off and then back on. Check the wiring from the receptacle to the plug to the back of the dryer. I believe however, it is in the thermal switch.

When hitting start button, it sometimes buzzes, but fails to start. Can sometimes wait for a little while and try again, and it starts. When it buzzes, it will only buzz for a few seconds and then nothing.

it is either the door switch or start switch, this website will show you how to test both, Good Luck Tim:

220volt dryer; "Performa". Schematic refers to 53-3540 "REL". When push-to-start pressed loud buzz/arc sounds from about 14 inches below switch. Someimes long buzz/arc and unit starts, sometimes a buzz and...

Correct diagnosis is the key. You need to remove the top and the front of the machine. You should be able to see where the arcing has occurred. If you can't see it, you bridge the door switch, remove the belt, and run the machine for 5 seconds, being mindful the elements are going to heat up unless you have a cold run setting.

Because you get a 'buzz' and not movement to the drum, my feeling is that the motor is defective. It has two sets of windings, a start winding and a main winding. The start windings are to get it moving so that the main windings aren't stressed when power is applied, and there is no movement for a second.

The cost of the motor probably means it is beyond economical repair, so time for a new one and its 2 year warranty.

Loud buzz when starting, then shutting down after 10 min.

Yes, this sounds like the motor cutting out on thermal lockout.

Dryer makes a buzzing noise when I push the start switch.

Sounds like a bad motor, The buzzing noise is probably the motor humming then nothing because the thermal over load switch inside the motor opened. Timer will still be energized. Good Luck

Amana Dryer won't start

Depending on your interpretation of the 'buzzing' sound compared to mine, I'd say it may be a relay chattering or the motor trying to start up but the windings are beginning to fail. You may want to clean the motor housing from dust etc and make sure that you do that with the power disconnected. Also: with no clothes in teh dryer..try rotating it around and feel for any spots in that rotation that may be binding.. if the drum has excessive restriction while rotating.. the motor may not have enough torque to overcome that and just buzz,,, Hope that helps...
