The program that is downloading is an update (HotFix) from Microsoft. Its up to you but .NET will not hurt anything and you need it sometimes for other programs. But if you want to uninstall it, do a CTRL-ALT-DELETE, then click on applications or processes tab. Click on .NET, then right lclick and stop it. Then you can uninstall from control panel. If you have any questions let me know.
Don't forget to rate this solution.

Try this,
Right Click on task bar & go to task manager. go to application tab. check for all running programs and stop them by clicking on END TASK button. Restart the pc and see whether installation re-appears.

I produced many documents in "Word" and when I try to read them on my new computer which has Works 9" the drawings on the word doc do not come up

Microsoft Works is not 100% compatible with Word. My suggestion would be to go to office.com (will load the Microsoft Office site). Type "word viewer" (minus the quotes) in the search box. First item on the list will be the Word Viewer, click on it. This will take you to the download page. Download and install Word Viewer.

Word Viewer will let you view your documents only. From what your post said (read them), this should work for you.

I have MS Works 8 data but I reformated my disk, my WSWorks8 disks are in USA; I want to read a document in MSWorks 8 but cannot how can I read it?

If your document is in a standard format and you have a google/gmail account you can view it in google documents for a fast viewing and no need for any install of any other programs. If you can connect to google where you are at outside the US I suggest going to docs.google.com and giving it a try. the other solution is downloading a viewer for the document of the type you need to view - I would grab it from Microsoft, search for Microsoft *** viewer ( *** = Exel, Word, Powerpoint) to find the correct one. I hope this helps.

I have windows 7. When i try to play Nancy Drew: Danger by design a box pops up requesting i insert disc 1. There is only one disc! It seems to work ok on windows xp. Ca you suggest anything to make it...

From the Nancy Drew web site:

Windows Vista/7 Support Installing older games (#1-13) with Windows Vista/7.
While our older games are not completely Windows Vista/7 compliant (notably games #1-13), there is a workaround which has been successful for most players. Please take the following steps to manually install.
If you had previously installed, uninstall the game and then delete all remaining game file folders from your computer, including emptying them out of your Recycle Bin. These files may be in one of the following locations:
C:\Nancy Drew\
C:\Program Files\Nancy Drew\
In your Documents folder: C:\Users\Username\Documents\
Once this is done, make sure you're logged on as an Administrator for your computer and manually install by taking the following steps:
1. Go to your "Documents" folder and create a new folder. Rename the folder with the title of the game.
2. Insert game Disk 1 in your disk drive and open "Computer" from the "Start" menu.
3. Double-click on your CD-Rom/DVD drive, look for a Setup or Setup Launcher Installshield file. Double-click this file to start the installation process.
4. When install asks what directory you want your game to install to, click "Browse".
5. Navigate to the game folder you created by selecting "C:" drive, then "Users" (or User name), then "Documents", then select the game folder.
6. Continue forward with the installation process, when asked if you want to install DirectX, check "No, I will install myself".
7. Upon completion, uncheck the "Play Now" box, click finish and exit setup.
For game titles #1-5, follow these three additional steps:
1. Right-click the game icon that is now on your desktop, select "Properties".
2. Under "Properties", click on the "Compatibility" tab.
3. Check the "Run in Compatibility Mode" box and then select "Windows 98/Me" from the drop-down menu.
You should now be able to open and play the game. If you installed an older version of DirectX with the game, please go to Microsoft's Download Center to download and install the latest version of DirectX for your version of Windows.

Am confused regarding what to download for simple power point viewer use when receiving e-mail with "pps" attachments. Will appreciate recommendations.

Hi,

If you wish to view Power Point (.pps) attachments you receive in your e-mail, you need to download and install the Microsoft Office PowerPoint Viewer 2007 which you can download by clicking this link.

Also, please be careful while opening PowerPoint documents you receive in email because a lot of viruses are transmitted these days along with .pps documents. So, only open PowerPoint attchments from contacts whom you know.

Hope this solves your problem. Thanks for using FixYa
