Follow Up From Postee: Determined that by simply removing the back cover (phillips Head Screw) that there is a brass clamp over the pivoting bar that has an alan head screw on either side. Simply tighten both sides and the lid will stay up. Done.

Can't find my owner's manual ... how do you take the waffle plates off to convert to a grill?

Not certain if you're still interested in this, but there should be one spring clip on the top and one on the bottom which hold the plates in place.

One is located on the bottom, near the right side of the hinge.

This is the one on the bottom. Sorry about the image quality, but the limitation of 100K means I cannot get a much larger or clearer image.

This is the spring clip which holds in the bottom plate. Note that it is near the hinge in the rear of the unit, right-hand side.

This is the little clip in the front (there is one on the top and the bottom near the handles) which actually holds the front of the plate firm to the unit. This clip does not move, but it is necessary to get the plate under this clip, before securing the back with the spring clip.

I hope this helps. Note that you should be careful not to damage the non-stick surface when you work with the plates.

Flattens meat

Don't use the frozen setting, it uses more pressure. I only use fresh, even for frozen food, i just cook it a little longer. If you want your Steak or Chicken to stay juicy, spray both sides of the food with Olive Oil Spay (About $4 from store) before you put it in the bag (Or dip in an Olive Oil bath and wipe off excess). It will allow the food to sear, stay juicy and taste wonderful. The oil will also help allow seasonings to stick to the food. (I am the master of Rocket Grill, and even cook scrambled eggs in it. Trade secret though)

Ther does not appear to be parts available for that make and model.
Even if there was, the plates may be more expensive than the are worth.

Stuck Grill plates

What happens is that the upper post (see the back of the plates; there's a quarter inch wide post) slides into a slot not designed for it (too small). To fix, find the post. Slide a table knife in between the plate and the griddler, and twist. This should un-jam the post and free the plate.

With the unit unplugged, check the elements to see if one has become unseated. A gentle push should seat them. Some elements are plug in & can come unseated.
