Question about Samsung HL-R6167W 61" HDTV

1 Answer

Projection tv has really loud buzz or hum

I have a GemStar 56' rear projection tv. It turns on just fine, turns off just fine. I have a clear picture and no visual picture defects. Therefore i don't believe its the color wheel. But i do think the sound is coming from the projector somehow. Its like a whining sound and can only be heard when the tv is on. You hear it wind down as soon as you power it off. Any ideas as to what it is and how to fix it?

You may not see any deterioration in the picture when the color wheel begins to go bad. The noise will get louder and eventually, it will shut down or the wheel will shatter while the motor continues to spin. If that happens, you'll have a black and white picture.

If its a Samsung DLP that is mercury vapor lamp driven, its a safe bet the color wheel is going bad.

Loud sound would be coming from defective color wheel that is mounted i light engine, next to lamp housing. Replacement of color wheel is required expertise/ experience and professional will do that for you in correct and in safe manner.
Contact local tv repair shop to get color wheel replaced in tv.

Loud Buzz

loud buzz is the color engine, turning the color wheel. Find instructions on how to take it out and clean it and that should fix that problem.
