This is a common situation with the rear projection build. its a combination of the burn in effect and also, bad tuning. you can get a better picture by using the DVI option. rgb stream can give you a better picture as well. adjusting the sharpness can help sometimes.

I have this same set. the dvi option is only available if your cable box can allow it. the rgb/HD stream can be used with the appropriate box as well. most cable companies should ahve these hd recevers upon request. i put a new tuner in my set , which is similar to yours, and it cleared up most of the fog. i also replaced the lamps as well. and finally, i orderd a new screen insert from rca. its like new again.

Color looks white washed!!!

there are in the older rear projection sets lens for those that do not use a lamp for a light source.

In the older sets there are three large black lens that can be seen and reached with the rear cover off---if there clean them as they are the light source in those sets and if dusty picture will look dull and darker than it once did.

If in doubt shoot me a model number.

Screen goes dull at times

The dulling picture really sounds like a lamp failing. You would need the sony lamp xl-2100u
The ghost image may be easier to fix, sometimes as lcds age you will get a slight shift in a color. deep in the sony menu there is a parameter (menu-setup-imageshift) that will give you 3 levels of correction, this may solve this issue.
