My Kenmore Dryer turns on and then goes off on it's own
I turn it on and it runs for about 90 seconds, then turns off. It will not come back on without a significant break, but when it does, it only runs for a short time.
The heating element is working.
Dryer is 12 years old.
Do I buy a new one or try to fix this one?

By the time you purchase a part it would be almost half of what a new one would cost. Check for any clogs that may be in a drain and try playing with the dryer door latch. These things could also cause this problem. But a 12 year old washer could just be a motor wearing out from age.

Did anyone come up with a solution to the problem, we are having the same problem, except our dryer keeps running, the filter light goes out, and when the dryer is turn back on the filter light is back on, the filter is clean.
I opened up the lower panel of my kenmore 90 and then removed the blower cover. I found two hair pins lodged in the blower and removed them. I tested the dryer with it open and the blower and drum began to turn again. I buttoned everything back up, and it is running fine now.
You could have any one of several problems with that gas dryer -
Turn dryer on. Go out to where dryer duct exits house. Feel the amount and strength of air blast coming from vent. Air blast should be strong and cover the full face of the vent.
If not, check that dryer hose is not crushed/collapsed behind dryer as it is pushed back into position. Clear any restrictions in the vent pipe. Clean lint screen. Check that there is no restriction where air is pumped into or discharges from the dryer drum on the inside. If you are able to, check to see if you can see the pilot ignitor lighting.
