    Hi I have a palm Z22

I have only just installed the software yet I have been using the unit for some year or more so there is a lot of data in the unit.

I want to save the data to my computor thus I have thought it best to load the software, unfortunaly when i try to Hotsync it says it needs
'Please Enter the password for the handheld'

AS I NEVER HAD OR RECEIVED A PASSWORD I CANT ENTER ONE i BOUGHT THE UNIT FROM NEW AT LEAST A YEAR AGO.IS THERE ANY WAY AROUND THIS? I have tried the unit no. on the back of the palm, but no help.

Then because i dont input a password it goes on to say 'This handheld cannot be synchronised without a valid password'
    Please help?

Make sure you have an updated driver for your palm. You can probably download the update from the manufacture's website. Also make sure you to "my computer, then find E: or F: drive to see if your device shows up there.

the device must be on before plugging in usb. all drivers have to be installed and up to date. Also the device should show up in "my computer". If there are any firewalls, the device will have to be allowed through. Also go to your device manager, click to expand usb ports and make sure all are abled  and they should also be able to detect your device if proper driver is installed

Factory Reset for Centro and Treo 755p
If you've set a password on your smartphone, any hard reset will automatically become a Factory Reset. With this method, you'll enter a password and then perform a hard reset.

    1. On your smartphone, launch the Security application.

    2. If the Password box says "Unassigned," tap the box and create a password for your smartphone. Press Applications to exit the Security application.

    3. Now that a system password is established, we'll perform a hard reset to complete the factory reset. With the device face down, remove the battery door. Removing the stylus may make it easier to remove the battery for the next step.

    4. Remove the battery. Then put the battery back in.

    5. When the Palm logo appears, press and hold Power/End until the black status bar at the bottom of the screen fills and disappears, and then release Power/End.

    1. If you performed this reset correctly, you should see a white screen with black text saying "reformatting in progress" (any other activity - such as the Palm OS logo and then the Applications launcher appearing - means the reset was performed incorrectly; try again). Your smartphone will appear to reset again after the "reformatting in progress" screen disappears.

    2. When the Erase all data? prompt appears, press Up to confirm the Factory reset.

    3. When the language selection screen appears, select the same language you selected for your desktop software. The Factory reset is now complete.

      1. On your smartphone, launch the Security application.

      2. If the Password box says "Unassigned," tap the box and create a password for your smartphone.

      3. Once the password has been set, disconnect your smartphone from the AC charger and take off the battery cover. Do not remove the battery yet.

      4. Hold down Power/End .

      5. While holding down Power/End , remove the battery. Then insert it again.

      6. While still holding Power/End , the screen will show the palmOne or Palm logo and a progress bar. Then the circular Palm Powered logo will appear. Release the power button when you see the Palm Powered log

Hi....Run a business card around the edges of the screen between the screen and the plastic housing to see if there is any trapped dirt or other debri. If there is, it will hold down that point of the screen and prevent any further input and it will keep sayin that device is not connected  Be sure to remove anything you find. Also, sometimes the screen protectors themselves will shift just enough to cause the same issue. Be sure it is not wedged tightly between the screen and case.

thank u

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

To my understanding, older Palm devices do not ordinarily work with Vista. However, there are workarounds which you could try. One is:

  • Install the Palm software and drivers under Windows XP SP2, and perform at least one hotsync.
  • Export the registry key [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics] from Windows XP SP2.
  • Boot into Windows Vista Beta 2.
  • Press the HotSync button on the Visor cradle, & use the Device Manager to update the drivers. When prompted, don't have Vista search online for drivers, but instruct it to search in the USB_Driver directory on your Windows XP SP2 partition (in my case, this was D:\Program Files\Palm\USB_Driver).
  • Then, ensure the HotSync Manager is not running (right-click on the systray icon, and choose exit).
  • Import the registry key you exported in step 2.
  • Set the HotSync Manager (HOTSYNC.EXE) to run as Administrator, and run in Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode.
  • Restart the machine and boot into Vista.
Unfortunately, the password is whatever it is that either you or the installer would have placed. Perhaps you may want to contact the seller/point of purchase.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

    Appreciate the quick postback.

Your additional information indicates that you may be currently logged in as "user" with no administrative rights, hence:

    • will not allow installation of any software or device;

    • will ask for a password.
Reboot and log in as Administrator. If you are using Windows XP, methods are:

    • In Windows XP Home Edition, you can login as built-in Administrator in Safe Mode only.

    • For XP
Professional, press CTRL + ALT + DEL twice at the Welcome Screen and input your Administrator password in the classic logon
      window that appears
      .
Or create a new account with admin privileges.

That being the case, pls view the solution proposed by taran_2005 as it would be addressing your specific password problem.

Z22 Handheld: what is the price of palm Z22 handheld...

I have seen them listed on Craigslist.com from $15 to 50. I have seen them online for over $300! I guess it is what the market will bear. If you have one that isn't working, there are parts on ebay that may allow you to keep you own running longer.

My computer went down and I lost my calender info that was on Palm. I have a Palm Z22 which still has my calender. Can I sync the handheld with the computer only?

Hello cskennedy:

Many people are asking the same question, as well as how to deal with touchscreen and battery problems etc.

I have really explored all the aspects keeping a Z22 up and running, and have a complete web page devoted to this.

I am repeating a previous answer below:

The support page for the Z22 has moved around over the last couple of years. HP (Hewlett Packard) bought PALM and still has a fairly good coverage of what WAS available. Beware that Windows has gone to 64 BITS with Windows 7, Windows 8 etc, so that older software does NOT immediately work.
There are many features of the Z22 such as NEWS and GAME web portals that are shut down, so that peripheral connectivity is at a minimum.
HP has the last known working, native, connection software at:
http://kb.hpwebos.com/wps/portal/kb/na/zire/z22/unlocked/home/page_en.html
On my web page at :
http://kidbots.com/WEBADD/Z22_PALM_PILOT/Z22_PALM_PILOT.html

I have all the patches, fixes, work-arounds, maintenance, tips and tricks I could find.

Hope that this helps you to get your PALM Z22 working and useful once again!

good luck

Some 3rd party software is nasty to palm devices. Try uninstalling the software from the PDA and a soft reset. Then try turning it on.

How to download current Zire info to new Palm Z22

My son said to just install the new software and see if it would transfer the data via the sync feature, and it did. The new Z22 software must have written over the existing Zire and incorporated all the data.
