Question about Brother XL-5130 Mechanical Sewing Machine

1 Answer

Tension problems I have a Brother model XR-7700. One minute the stitches are fine, then I start getting uneven stitches with loops. I have tried adjusting the tension both ways and it does not seem to make any difference. The manual says the upper tension is too tight, but no amount of adjusting changes anything.

Possibly you have the bobbin in upside down and its turning the wrong way. Read manual. If you have done everything the manual says then it must be a mechanical issue such as the small thread take up spring or maybe the tensioner discs are dirty. Timing slightly off or there is a burr on the hook that catches the thread. Have a tech look at it.

Top thread is hanging up somewhere under feed dogs. With and without bobbin in place. Any suggestions.

1. Make sure to adjust the bobbin tension. Also, make sure the bobbin is correct for the machine. If it is too tall it will surely have problems. (see attachment for bobbin tension adjustment)
2 Always thread your machine with the pressure foot up. As you thread give gentle tugs to check for hang ups. This has to be corrected.
3. Adjust the top tension to four to begin with. Final tension adjustment can be made when you give a trial sew.
*Always oil race w/one drop of oil before the bobbin case is placed back. This is done only about every 10000 stitches.

Why is the bobbin thread looping and catching on my sewing machine? The stitches are uneven, too.

Hi Sylvia,
Your problem is an un-matched tension of the threads. You mentioned doing an adjustment recently. That is the problem area.
If your bobbin thread develops loops on the top side of the fabric, you need to tighten the bobbin tension.
There is no easy method for this and you will have to do it slowly -
tighten, test, re-tighten, test.... until you get a near perfect stitch.
I haven't come across a portable device specifically designed to set thread tensions.

I cannot get the bobbin to wind on my Model 1260 Euro-Pro. It was working fine the last time I used it. Any ideas?

How do I adjust the bobbin settings on my Brother XL-3022

Well is your machine skipping stitches? "Not looping" does that mean not creating a stitch? To adjust your bottom stitch you usually adjust the top tension regulator. I can try to help you more in detail check out my forums http://www.sewingmachineryrepair.com/forums/index.php

I had the same problem and it was so frustrating! It was happening to me because I wasn't using the right size needle. Go up a couple of needle sizes and see if that helps.

I have a white superlock 228 jaguar serger problems with right needle

Couple of things I could think of: tension disks need cleaning, there is a site that tells how to clean them, maybe 2 as I recall. Other thing is it is a much older serger, (I have one I am slowly working on to bring up to working level), so it could be that a tension spring internally has lost its tension. It might need a trip to the repair man if that is the case. Another thing is are you using correct needles for the machine? Have you changed them recently? Even new needles can be bad, so if you have to change three times to triple check it can be worth it.
