Ok so I exited a game and for no reason my playstation 3 screen goes blue and has all this text in different languages about how the system settings went corrupt and it needed to restore the system settings. So I click X to do it like it tells me too and it reboots fine, but sadly I had to put back in all of my settings and restart my online account, but luckily all of my saved data remained. Also now for some reason there is a small star beside each of the usernames whichs looks exactly like this *. So I think ok that's cool, I've got a star by my name now. But now there are some more serious porblems. First off, I go onto one user and start a game and as its starting up a box appears and says that the game data cannot be opened and that it needs to abort, so when I get into that game all of my saved data was gone. Then after that I go onto another user who had a saved file for that game and his is still fine when I start the game. So then I go back to my user and start another game and it says that tropy support no longer works for that game so what on earth is going on, my playstation 3 has been messed up ever since the blue screen, what should I do?

I am sorry to say that this is what is known as the Yellow Light of Death (YLOD). This indicates a general hardware failure normally due to overheating. When these PS3's were produced Sony decided to use lead free solder. The problem with lead free solder is that it is not as flexible as leaded solder but it is cheaper and more environmentally friendly. When the console gets hot and cools down hairline cracks appear within these solder joints and a good electrical contact cannot be made. This then causes the console to fail. It could be on a number of different components including the CPU, GPU or memory. There is a temporary cure that may or may not work but ultimately the console will need to be repaired professionally or replaced. If it is out of warranty Sony will not replace it but will offer a refurbished unit for around £130. If you look on Youtube for Yellow light of death fix there is a way that you can re-heat the solder joints using a heat gun but if you are not confident taking apart electrical items then this really may not be something you want to try.
I am sorry I cant give you any better news but unfortunately it is a very common problem with the PS3 Hope this helps and thanks for using FixYa
It sounds like a hard drive issue. If your system can't read your hard drive it will stay on the blue Playstation screen. After a few minutes it will say it cant load from the hard drive on the screen. Try putting your hard drive in a different machine and see if it boots up.
when i was trying to watch my blue ray "young guns" movie, the console wasnt reading the disc. i.e. it was as there was no movie/game in the system. i held the eject button for 10 seconds with the movie out of the console. when the blue light started blinking i continued to hold eject button until the light stopped. i then inserted my movie and........VIOLA!!!!!
now i just need to find a date to watch it with.
