Solutions for : How To Send a Fax
Solution : Insert a Pause When Dialing a Fax Number
With some telephone systems, an access code must be dialed and a second dial tone will then be heard. For example, a "9" might need to be used to get an outside line.
In such cases, a pause in the telephone number needs to be inserted.
Pauses can be inserted when setting up speed dial numbers.
To insert a pause, press [Pause / Redial] button at the appropriate place when entering the telephone number. A dash "-" appears on the display at the corresponding location.
NOTE: The following solution applies only when the WorkCentre has the fax feature.
Speed Dial numbers must be set up before creating a Group Dial. If Speed Dial numbers have not been set up, See the Related Items below for additional information.
Press the [Machine Status] button on the Control Panel. 'Machine Setup' will be displayed on the Display Screen.
Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button until 'Fax Setup' is selected, and then press the [Enter] button.
Press the [Left] or [Right] arrow button until 'Group Dials' is displayed, and then press the [Enter] button.
Press the [Left] or [Right] arrow button until 'New' is displayed, and then press the [Enter] button.
Enter a Group Dial number between 1 and 200 using the numeric keypad, and then press the [Enter] button.
NOTE: If a 'Location No. is Registered' message is displayed, the number has already been stored as a Group Dial. Enter a number that has not been stored, and then press the [Enter] button.
Enter a Speed Dial number to be added to the Group Dial using the numeric keypad, and then press the [Enter] button. The name and fax telephone number stored for the specified Speed Dial number will be displayed.
NOTE: If a 'Not Assigned Enter Again' message is displayed, the number has not been stored as a Speed Dial number. Enter a number that has been stored, and then press the [Enter] button.
Press the [Enter] button. The Speed Dial number will be added to the Group Dial.
Repeat steps 6 and 7 to add additional Speed Dial numbers to the Group Dial.
After all required Speed Dial numbers have been added to the Group Dial, press the [Menu / Exit] button.
If required, enter a name for the Group Dial using the corresponding buttons on the numeric keypad, and then press the [Enter] button. If a name is not required, press the [Enter] button.
Press the [Stop] button to return to the Standby mode.
To connect the machine for use as a fax machine, plug the cord into the left side of your machine, lower phone jack labeled LINE and the other end into the wall phone jack. To connect a telephone to your machine, plug into top jack on the left side of machine labeled EXT. When sending, try using a analog phone, and dial the number you are calling. Make sure it is the correct number. You might hear someone pick up the phone, or you will get a recording messege. This will tell you if the phone is the correct number you are trying to dial. When you are finished, plug in the phone line back into the correct jack on the fax machine.
Once you hear the dial tone, your phone is working.
If you can send a fax, and the machine does not send it, then the machines fax board might not be working.
There are other questions I like to ask about the phone line. Are you using a adaptor to convert the analog signal to digital? If this is the case then the adaptor may be causing some problems with your faxes.
