The camera has not been in a damp place. It had been standing on a desk in a room, which does get warmer then 20C. The camera has not been dropped.

shouldn't my camcorder work without batteries if plugged in with ac adapter?

  • sfweiser Mar 27, 2009

what if the adapter provides no power to the camcorder? The lights do not work and the adapter is brand new and direct from jvc.

  • sfweiser Mar 27, 2009

I have already tried with 2 adapters, and it did not work, nor did the batteries work. They were all manufacturer supplied components. I'm not certain it will work.

I will try what you have recommended, and hopefully the solution is a cost efficient one. Thank you for your time and input.

Are you 100% sure that all the batteries are still good?

Has your camera been in a very damp place or a very hot place (Above 20 degrees Celsius) ?

Also has the camera been dropped ever?

Camcorder has charging circuit but it could go defective. The repair would be costly so in this situation, you can purchase stand-along battery charger for around $20 and charge the batteries independently. Make sure all the contacts are cleaned and camcorder is working with direct ac adapter. Good luck -James. for furnter assistance by email, go to

Most camcorder will work with manufacturer supplied ac adapters so when used indoor you will have continuous and steady power. Batteries are used for portability and convinience. Make sure the camcorder works with your ac adapter before invest into external charger.

The ac adapter is the primary source of power so this may be the culprit. I would take the camcorder to major electronic mass merchandiser's service department, such as Bestbuy, and at the counter to see if they have ac adapter available to hook up to see your camcorder powering. Let me know how it turn out.

It sounds like all these information is creating more confusion. Best action at this stage is to take every items to a local camcorder repair shop and let technician examine it for you at decent diagnostic fee.

I'm trying to find a charging cable for my JVC camcorder model # GZ-E300WU.

Check the specs in the manual to determine the voltage/polarity (may also be next to the plug input on the camera) is the same and you may be able to use a generic adapter like those you'll find on Amazon for JVC GZ camcorders like this:

No power from batteries and the camcorder will

I have the same problem. The battery is charged, but the camcorder will only work while plugged in. It worked for a while on the 1st day, Christmas, then it would only turn on while plugged into the charger and would stay on after charger was disconnected. Today it will only stay on if plugged into charger.

Charger on cam does not work

If your extended battery came with small cord the cord needs to be plugged into the battery and the camera DC outlet).  My Everio was doing the same thing and I did the above and it works.
