Re: best settings on a 9 band eq for rock and r&b
Provided the rest of your system is all tuned an in proper shape, and up for the wattts, the best sound to set, starting with the low end...start with is a slightly elevated above zero (about 1/4 up from zero) then slowly gradually slope it down to 1/4 below zero in middle and then back up to 1/4 above at the high end.
The result is a gently curved V type shape.
Now, knock down the highest 2 or 3 freq bands a few clicks till they are just above zero. (1/8).
This is the curve you would shoot for with a real-time analyzer for SQ, punch and clarity.

try to use the preset equalizer settings after which you can come back to the parametric equalizer and adjust to your own taste. no problem if you don't connect the subwoofer just make sure you set the hi-pass filter to off so that you will hear the full range to your speakers. but, I advice you to put a subwoofer. There is more dynamics to the lower freqs too. don't adjust the source level if there is no problem. take note the EQ of your head unit is a parametric equalizer. hope this helps while you read about parametric EQs.
This setting is a blast,I adapted it from the 10 band "perfect" itunes eq setting. don' t be shy , give it a try... 80hz = (2) or 7 220hz = (0) or 5 470hz = (-1) or 4 1khz = -(-2) or 3 2.2khz= (0) or 5 4.7khz =(2) or 7 12khz= (4) or 9 I have this on my LG tv, however if you need more oomph! to it, simply stick to the same pattern between the two sets above and move each slider up accordingly.
i just got the wiring for the sony xe-mk90II eq, heres a picture :
top right is the ground , bottom right is constant power, blue is the remote turn on. if you have a old wire harness around you can pull out the blue ,yellow, and black wires with the metal clip on and make than fit right where the wires should go. but make sure u rap the metal clips with electrical tape so the wires dont touch or you will fry it.
