Your sending unit is definately bad running at 180 - 210 is perfectly fine and it is not overheating at all.Replace it and your problems will be solved. But make sure you are using your lazer temp gauge at the same point as your temp sending unit.If you are then it is your sending unit if not you may have air in the system at the point of the sending unit and this will cause your problem as well.

Ambient air temp sensor could be the cause. Normally located in front grille area.

What code do you get when the light is on? The computer doesn't lie.

YOUR ENGINE OPERATING RATING TEMPERATURE SUPPOSE TO BE 190 TO 200 DEGREES. IF COOLANT SENSOR DEGREES IS SHOWING 190 OR 200 DEGREES IT WORKING.THAT RIGHT.IF ITS SHOWING 60 OR 80 DEGREES IT FAULTY. AND ENGINE WILL RUN POORLY.

Be sure coolant is up to proper level (when cooled) , and if water pump is working properly, I'd check my rad hoses for collapsing when engine rpm increases. Feel hoses for soft spots that may collapse & restrict flow when engine reaches a certain rpm.

the temp display can be switched between celsius and farenheit readings, since the car is from europe the default is celsius, The manual has instructions on changing back, You have to hold 2 buttons on the display per the manual.

heat build up causing spark system to break down

tell tale sign is highway drive is fine (plenty of cool air under hood)

you may have spark module prelim failure
it'll only get worse eventually it won't run but a few minutes

should be fine as long as the gage goes up and down and you get heat it should be fine make sure you consider the outside temp. as the engine starts it will heat up get really hot the the thermostate opens and the gage will fall and should but not always stay low it could just be the ip gage.

I have a '99 Mercury Cougar & I've been read somewhere that the snowflakes have to do with the outside temp. & traction. I think it's warning you that it may be slippery or icy. I've noticed that when it's +3 to about -2 or -3, the yellow snowflake shows up. Any anything colder than -3 shows the red snowflake. The other lights: the wrench comes up in yellow. That one has always turned on after a certain amount of km's & it's advising you that your car needs a check-up (that's when I know I should look into getting an oil change). You can turn this light off by holding down the two buttons above & below the 'clock' button. Hold them down together for at least 5 seconds & that wrench light should go off. Otherwise, there is a light for checking your breaks (upside down exclamation mark), low windshield fluid. I can't think of any other ones but I hope this helps.

it could also be telling you that your freon is low. have it checked if its good then you have a computer control problem seperate from the engine its a control just for heat and ac.
