Yes, I did all the things that you said, in fact I had done them before I read them on your site. I did tell you the actual error message...
#mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mnt/camera mount: /dev/sda1 is not a valid block device.
dmesg = non-existant
/var/log/messages = (kcore is the hostname)

So what, my camera is not even in thier at all but it still works. I have said many times, most all cameras are the same, of course vendor ID's are differant but basicly they all need ide-scsi emulation and they need the usb-storage module loaded.
Mow a few questions;
1) What does 'dmesg' say about your camera when you plug it in and turn on the pwoer.? 2) Do you have ide-scsi support either as module or compiled into the kernel.? All default installed kernels i know of in all distro's support it so use one of them to experiment with. 3) Your kernel would also need FS support for your device, hence use a standard kernel. 4) Did you try my examples on my site "To the letter"??? 5) Supply the "actual" error messages to commands and DONT say; "when i run a mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mnt/camera it doesn't like it" That tells me and others ""NOTHING""..
Help us to help you, be more detailed, unless your camera is unique and differeant to all others on the market then it should work under linux period.
Use google as well to help you, i can assure you folks have been here and done that what you have now a problem with. If you do you will see that others have your type of camera and that it is very little differance to all others.
