Hi,
not every LCD has built-in speakers. You can have a type without speakers. Specification of type with and without ones can differ eg. just in one character... And both types can look very similar, price could be almost the same... The user guide can the same for both types
Check specification of your product, it can be mistake of shop or you have bought product without speakers...

I got a Dell U2711 and the right side of the screen has severe random lines happening on it .. i have tried changing the Dvi-d cable - also got a Hdmi cable and a component cable - but same problem tried...

As from your testing, the problem is clearly the monitor. You need to set up an RMA with dell by either chatting, emailing or calling them. Here is a link where you can do any of the three: http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dellcare/en/contact_technical_support?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs. With an RMA you ship the product back to them and they will ship a new one back to you after testing and confirming the problem.

When I first turn on the monitor I get a picture for about 1 second then it goes black. If I turn the monitor off then right back on I get the same 1 second pic then black. A different monitor works fine...

Make sure you are on the correct video setting on the monitor using the menu button.
If you are hooked up to dvi you need to make sure the monitor is on the dvi component. VGA same thing.

Hope this helps

It sounds like the monitor might have switched input modes for some reason. You can use the menu on the monitor to scroll through the DVI and VGA settings to make sure it is using the right method of connection.

Good Luck!

Why won't the HD channels come in on my lg flat screen monitor? We changed the cable box and everything. Any suggestions?

The first thing you need is the HD tuner. Since you stated that you changed the cable box I will assume that means it's HD ready.
So you have HD signal coming in to the cable box box by-way of a coaxial cable. Now you need to get that HD signal to the monitor. For this connection the standard coaxial cable normally used between the TV and cable box will not do the job. How many connection options you have depends entirely on the what is available on the monitor.
Normally there are three choices. Your monitor could have anyone of these, a combination of them or none if it's not HD ready.
They are Component cable, HDMI and DVI.
Component is a combination of three RCA type (red, blue, and green), connectors. Simply connect the "Component Out" from the cable box to the "Component In" on the monitor.
HDMI cable looks similar to a computer monitor cable but bigger. Same goes for this one. Connect the "HDMI Out" from the cable box to the "HDMI In" on the monitor.
An indirect connection can also be made if your monitor has a "DVI In" jack by using a cable that will allow you to come from the "Out" connection of either the HDMI or Component on the cable box to the "DVI In" on the monitor.
If you are unclear about anything or you have any other questions please just ask and I'll try and help out.

Dell 2405FPW LCD Severe Flickring

The symptom you describe is typical of a thermal problem in the display. It might be in the LCD panel itself, in which case the only repair is to replace the display. It could also be in a component on the main board, and spray component cooler can be used to selectively chill parts to see if it has any effect. Even then, though, it's usually large-scale integrated circuits on these board that have go bad. Even if you can find a source for the part, changing it normally requires tools and techniques beyond almost every shop. Even the manufacturers "repair" these by simply replacing the entire board.

Sad to say, if this isn't covered by some kind of repair warranty, replacement might be your only option.
