Hold down the start/stop button and the presser foot pivot button at the same time and turn the power on. You may need to try it a few times.
Hope that helps.

I forgot to mention that the buttons do wear out on this machine, especially the start/stop one, which makes it difficult to get into the test mode.
I double checked the manual and the test mode is entered as described earlier.
Let me know if you are still having trouble.

I am not sure about this particular machine but in most machines there will be a nob on the front loose low numbers like 0 1 -2 work well on number 3. If the nob is not on the front check and see if it is on the side.

Loose tension

I would suggest taking the machine to a different repair technican
because the tension dial may need to be replaced.
the machine may also need some type of adjustment.

I already tried to check my needle, yet the threads still do not join or sew.

the machine could need some type of adjustment or there could
be a timing problem and the machine needs to be serviced.

Bernina B550 QE upper tension

try adjusting the top tension one number or letter at a time till
the stitch look normal
if you have tried to adjust the top tension and no matter what
setting the top tension is on, it doesn't help, then the machine
needs to be serviced, to see if the machine needs any adjustment
or possibly that the tension dial needs to be replaced.

Bernina 820 Tension Error Message

You need to take your machine in for service. The 8 series machines have new upper tension parts that can be installed under manufacturer warranty and MAKE SURE your Bernina dealer is well trained on the 820 and 830 or they'll never get it adjusted right. The 8 series are just all around buggars when they're out of whack.

New Home ss2015 machine. I am having trouble with the thread tension. I have loops on the bottom. I have cleaned the bobbin case, changed the needle, re-threaded and moved the upper tension all the way up....

try adjusting the top tension to 3 & if it doesn't stop the looping, try 4 but I wouldn't go any higher than 5,, if changing the top tension doesn't help then I suggest taking the machine in to have it serviced. the bottom tension is more difficult to do,, it's also very possible that the top tension dial is messed up & needs replacing. only a sewing machine shop can tell for sure.
