The drive belt broke. ou need to replace the drive belt. Remove the back panel and you will see a motor and a pulley, attach the new belt there and it will work just fine. Here is a website to get the belt that is right for your unit.

1 Pull the plug for the Kenmore dryer out from the electrical socket. Move the Kenmore dryer away from the walls or any obstructions behind so that you can work on it safely.

2 Remove the lower front panel from the Kenmore dryer. These are usually secured with screws at the sides. Once the panel is removed, locate the blower, which is a circular shaped object connected by a belt to the Kenmore motor. If you cannot locate the blower, then it is mounted on the back of the machine.

3 Remove the rear service panel by loosening the screws holding it in place. Pull the panel aside.

4 Loosen and remove the fan blower belt. Locate the tension pulley in between the motor and the blower. Pull the tensioner back to relieve the tension on the belt. Remove the belt by pulling it off the motor and the blower.

5 Grasp the blower with one hand. Use a socket wrench and socket to loosen the blower bolt holding it in place. If the bolt is stubborn, spray it with some penetrating lubricant and allow this to soak in for a few minutes before trying again.

6 Pull the blower off the blower shaft.

Kenmore 80s series electric fryer. Went in to

I have about 25 motors laying around here for that drier and oddly enough,,, none of these have this plastic piece you speak of on them.
I am left to questions the purpose of this being there myself and would say it is not a necessary piece.
I would just replace the belt and them go on with life,,, if it were me.

Drum does not turn

Here are a few things to check. If you don't feel comfortable performing these check, please have a repair person come in and check it.

* Broken belt. Open dryer and see if belt is still wrapped around the drum. Pull on the belt to make sure it's not just hanging there. Inspect belt condition. Do not apply spray adhesive in this case: replace the belt. If belt is broken, look for contributing causes for failure such as worn drum rollers, damaged felt kit, or stiff idler roller.

* Motor burned out. Remove belt from motor pulley and start dryer. If motor runs but is noisy and motor is unable to turn the drum when the drum belt is threaded back on the motor pulley, then replace the motor.

* Thermal fuse is open. Run continuity test.

Hope this helps.

How to place belt on dryer drum

Take the hanging part of the bottom of the belt and place a finger through the bottom and pull it toward the belt tentioner , you may have to pull the tentioner with your other hand until you reach the motor shaft , loop the part of the belt your holding with your finger around the motor shaft , that should be it. Hold the drum straight and roll it clockwise a full turn to ensure it is correct.
Let me know how this goes.
