DC17 doesnt move on floor good

We recently replaced the belt and filter on our DC17 and now it seems impossible to push it across the floor. I am wondering if I put the bottom plate/part on wrong? It doesnt glide across my wood floors like it use to.....it seems to make a scrapping sound now.....is it suppose to adjust? I have taken it off and replaced it 4 or 5 times to no relief.... Is it because we took it apart and cleaned everything and now it is just so strong? I liked it better when it was clogged and moved....I have to use both ams to push it across my area rugs...HELP!!!!!!

It seems like the vacuum action is sealing the bottom on the floor and causing the resistance to movement because if there are irregularity in the floor that break the seal there ir moves easily.

I have a DC17 with the same problem and I have checked all the obvious
and believe my sole plate is installed correctly. Several other user
had the same problem and I have not found a solution anywhere.

    Did you fix yours?

Also be sure the 2 springs are still underneath. I think those help level out the vacuum on various surfaces.

Yes, it certainly sounds as though you haven't re-fitted the sole-plate correctly. On most models, the sole-plate has three tabs at the front, and these locate in slots in the bumper bar at the front of the body. These tabs must be in the slots before you tighten the three locking screws. You need to hold the rear of the sole-plate up while pushing the tabs in to the slots, then press down on the rear and tighten the screws. Just the fact that you cleaned the machine will not be the cause of the problem.

My change floor setting on/off button blinks and it is really hard to push but it doesnt **** up like it use to either.

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your Dyson cleaner. From your description, it sounds as if you have a DC28 Animal, rather than a DC17 Animal. If the cleaner seems hard to push, and an indicator light is flashing, you may have the brushbar set to a level too low for the carpet you're trying to clean. Try raising the brushbar to the next height available on the selector pad.

Our Riccar SupraLite Upright Vac used to glide across the floor so easily, but now we have to push it pretty hard. This just recently started. What can be wrong?

Suggest you check the wheels to see if they are moving freely. Also check the beater brush to see that it is moving freely. Be sure the belt has not broken. If it has, replace with a new one. Also take the time to clean the beater brush of any debris and spray a little WD40 on both ends of the beater brush axle.

I don't get much suction from the hose on my DC17 All Floors. I don't see any obtacles in the hose. The suction when upright is fine.

Hello,

The way your Dyson DC17 is designed, there is a suction divert mechanism that diverts the suction to floor when the vacuum cleaner head is pushed down, and then back to the hose when the vacuum is in the upright position. If you are getting suction from the hose when the vacuum is upright, but no suction after the handle is reclined, this is actually the normal function for the Dyson DC17.

You can check to see if the filter is dirty. The washable filter on your Dyson DC17 is located directly underneath of the dust bin of the vacuum cleaner. After removing the dust bin, lift straight up on the part the bottom of the dust bin rests on. This is where the pre-motor filter is located for the DC17 models. If this filter is not cleaned on a regular basis, then it can start getting clogged, and you'll notice a loss of suction on the vacuum cleaner.

My dyson DC17 makes a loud noise when i tip the handle down to make the brush spin on the floor?

Loud noises are usually caused by worn belts, unbalanced roller brush or debris in the roller brush. Check these things. Here is a link to the belt you need:
