I don't know what type Garmin you have but the problem usually is the battery. On my c550 I can open up and unplug the connector where the battery wires go to. Leave unplugged for approx 30 seconds then replug. The unit will usually restart like new. Might work with your Garmin.

The Garmin Lock (anti-theft feature) security feature has been activated. Going back to the security location will unlock the unit but in order to reset the pin code, the original pin code must be input. To unlock the unit, it must be sent back to Garmin.
Try running and installing or reinstalling the latest update using the Garmin WebUpdater. download the latest version of WebUpdater software Usually this will resolve most issues. Failing that, the GPS receiver is replaceable as per Garmin's $190 to repair.
Garmin 755T BLACKOUT 2009!!!!

I jump into my car and input directions to her friends house. All of a sudden my GPS 755T is telling me that it is trying to update the firmware. I press ok. it displayed 1% said done and it couldn't find the Satellites. I was like WTH and turned it off and back on. It stated Cannot find Satellites. I was like ok, let me keep it on the charger 12V Cigarrette lighter. I thought it would start working while we drive and my wife was trying to turn it on but the screen went black and now I'm pissed because I just brought this thing. I went to Garmin's web page but there was nothing informative. I guessing something happened when this Firmware was trying to download into my unit. It must have killed something. It is now 10:27pm June 24th and I'm just surfing the net looking for similar experiences. now I know I'm not the only one. GARMIN WHAT HAPPENED????
See if you can find the reset button on the unit and push it while the unit is on. On newer units the reset button is on the back, but on older units it may have a faceplate cover around the edge of the screen you have to remove and the reset button is sometimes located under the faceplate...this may work
Ummmmm "Low battery"....... not too hard to figure out. You need to charge it for several hours. If the battery is low it WILL go out on you and during that time, the battery may recover enough to come on briefly then go off again. Please charge your battery!
I have the same problem with my Nuvi 350. It's only about 2 months old and the sound went. I turned it on the other day to use it and the sound did not sound right, it sounded like the speaker was blown. I turned it off and turned it back on and that was it, the sound was gone. I did everything possible and can't get the sound to come back. I called Garmin and now I have to send it in for repair. I looked around the web and noticed that Garmins have big issues with the sound going on the units. I hope they fix that issue.
Your battery is dead. You'll need to return it to Garmin for repairs. Mine did the exact same thing. Functioned fine in the cradle - showed full battery - but shut off immediately upon removal. They know about the problem and shipped me a new unit for free.
