Question about Pure Digital Flip Video Ultra Camcorder
I turn the Camera on like normally and then instead of showing whatever the camera should be seeing it just displays a black screen. It still registers on the computer. I just got this please help.
SOURCE: Flip video
Are you running it on a MAC or a PC? If you are on a MAC - that may be where the issue is coming from. The Flip is not really compatible with the MAC unless you dowload special software to change things......

SOURCE: Flip Video Camera Won't Start Up
Flip support helped me solve this problem. Their procedure is to take the batteries out of the camera and leave it sit for 48 hours. After 48 hours, put different batteries into the camera and turn it on. Your problem should be solved. It worked for me the first time and now I currently doing it for a second time. Waiting for 48 is no fun, but at least it works and fixing it is not expensive. No explanation was given to me about the problem.

THe camera is still likely recording good video and sound, you just can't see it on the little LCD screen. Go ahead and film something short, then plug the camera into your computer and see if you have a little movie. It's not good anymore, but can still work! I don't have a solution for the crash of the LCD monitor.

The smell test is always the best bet to see if it has been fried. If you can smell a burning smell then that would most likely be the problem.
Try unplugging the Camera and plugging it into a different wall outlet directly (don't go through an adapter).
Where the computer is concerned. Try Restarting your computer and plugging the camera back in. If this doesn't work, then also, try plugging the camera into a different USB slot (incase the one it is being plugged into is not working properly).
I hope this helps. Regards,

Testimonial: "Thanks 4 the suggestions. We eventually realized that it just take a long time to charge the Flip (about 4) hours & the wall adapter doesn't work. :)"
SOURCE: I've used my flip once.
The piece that they are talking about will be all the way inside where the batteries contact...if you are not seeing it, then that is not the problem.
If the camera is not that old, it should still be covered by the manufacturer wrranty and you should not need a receipt for that. I would cantact them directly for a replacement.
