Question about D-Link AirPlus DI-524 Wireless Router

Windows xp wont connect to internet

Hi,

im using virgin broadband with a d-link dir-301 router, and on my pc I am using the d-link supplied dongle.

On my macbook and iphone and other peoples laptops etc they can connect fine to the wireless, but with my pc it wont connect.

I can sometimes find the router in my network list, sometimes not. When I try to connect to it whenever it is listed, it connects to the network, but not to the internet.

If i try to repair the connection, it doesnt work, and disables the network connection through the dongle, and any attempt to 'enable this network device' fails straight away.

I have gone into advanced wireless settings and added a preferred network, but this doesnt help.

When I try things again and try to connect, it just sits on the screen - 'waiting for network', then says 'aquiring network address;, showing a low signal, and at that point it stays there, but still isnt connected!

Please help!!

Im running:
windows xp service pack 2
1.85ghz amd athlon xp
nvidia nf7-s2 nforce

Please check you LAN settings on your router (DNS) - usually it is 0.0.0.0 (assigned by provider)
Make sure your PC is using DHCP (TCP/IP properties -> Obtain IP Address Automatically & Obtain DNS server address automatically). Try "ipconfig /all" at others computers and compare with your PC (look at gateway & DNS). See if you can ping gateway and then outside address.

p.s. To access your router open Internet Explorer and enter http://192.168.0.1/
If it is not working, check the default gateway address on working computer and use it instead.

The setup wizard does not show the connect button after following the steps. So we cannot connect to the internet using the dlink dir-412 router.

For each PC that needs to connect to the DIR-412 wirelessly, you must ensure that the correct Wireless Network Name (SSID) and encryption key has been entered.
Windows 7 On your computer, go to Control panel --> Network and Sharing Center and Click on "Connect to a Network then select on the Wireless Network Name (SSID) and enter the password/encrytion key.
Windows XP On your computer, go to Control panel --> Network Connection then under the network task pane select View available wireless networks then then select on the Wireless Network Name (SSID) and enter the password/encrytion key.

Hi there,
Since you have re-installed Xp try checking device manager. You should see network adapters there. If you do not see it, it means the software for it is not installed. You have to download the drivers from the computer manufacturer's website.

download o2 connection manager ( it is used for the broadband dongles but you can still use for this problem ) so when you have downloaded the software install it and then start it, and make sure your wireless is switched on. now by using the o2 connection manager it will disable what ever else is controlling your wireless and o2 connection manager will be the default. you will see a blue box in the left hand corner and this will now scan for your network and obtain your ip address and connect you and stay connected until you want to disconect.

DIR-300 router and broadband ISP connection,is NAT possible?

With a cable broadband connection, the cable line comes into the cable modem. The cable modem does the work changing the cable signal to a network connection and sends an I.P. address to the computer. With some cable internet providers you can hook the network cable into the in port on a router, wireless or wired, then hook up computers to the router. At this point the router gets the IP from cable and uses it's own IP routing for your internal network. Some broadband providers control your access by the computers mac address which registers with the vendor. If this is the case then the easy way to make it work is to get a router which can clone a mac address so the vendor still sees the same mac address.
