Question about Ford Riding Mowers & Garden Tractors

1 Answer

Furguson/ 8N Ford tractor 1950's model schematics

We have just recently aquired an 1950's model Ferguson tractor. I need to know where to check the oil in the engine, transmission, rear end and such. Also it has a Lp gas burning engine. I need to know about adjusting the fuel flow or something, because it acts like it's starving for fuel when ever you rev it up. Any info on liquid verses vapor would be very helpful also.
Thanks so much in advance!

I changed my 1950 ford over to 12 volt and it sat for over 1 year now it wont start so I changed the solinoid ,and ignition switch ,battery, battery terminals and it still wont start and no lights

Recheck the battery connections for crud.Clean battery post/cables and where cables connect to the frame and starter solenoid as sometimes the tractor power feed is at the solenoid.
Good Luck
O if you have a meter or 12volt trouble lamp you can measure across the connection for a voltage drop. With the lights in the on position.

My 1949 8N Ford tractor, the starter just spins

My thought is you need a new "bendix" for lack of a better word. The device I speak of spins out and connects with the flywheel. There is the possibility you have electric problems but based on what you say, I think it is mechanical.

Is there a simple way to replace a fan belt on a Ford 8N?

there should be a coupler on the driven shaft. take out bolts and gently pry apart. this should allow enough room to work the new belt around the crank pulley

Ford 8n gets hot, may need to be timed,Step by step needed.

This is everything that i know that will make an 8N run hot...a stopped up radiator(inside)..a radiator that is filled with debris in the cooling fins..a bad thermostat(located in the upper radiator hose..if it has one).....a stopped up block..bent fan shroud missing..a bad water pump..the fan belt slipping on the water pump ..a blown head gasket..low coolant..i hope this will help and one of them should fix it ..if not...please write me back
