I am a computer repair technician and have just purchased a faulty Acer Ferrari from someone who took out the battery whilst the laptop was switched on. The system appears to have power as CD/DVD drive works, lights for power and battery come on, fans start up, but there is nothing on the screen. I have done all the usual tricks, boot no battery, complete discharge hold on switch for 10 seconds and reboot, remove RAM, HD and DVD drives etc but still nothing. Have tested with external monitor too.
The power LED is flashing from amber to green constantly as though its in standby mode or something but I cannot find anything on the web for the LED flashing error codes.
Does anyone know what it might be? If its a mainboard then its an eBay job but if not then I will attempt a repair.

Computer does not boot upThe problem maybe the RAM, it is faulty or just needsreseating to make proper electrical contact. Reseat the RAM and then boot up your laptop. If it still does not boot up thenremove the RAM module/s and take them to your friendly computer repair shop andget them to test the RAM for you. If this does not work then - Just like you sometimes need a mechanic to repair your car, sometimes you do need a technician to diagnose and identify the fault or faultson your computer. Not only does a good service technican have the experience todeal with this type of problem, they also have the equipment that allows themto look at things the average computer user can't see, and he has a collectionof replacement parts that can be used to quickly test individual components onyour computer.
The headphone jack is soldered directly to the motherboard. finding a new one and getting it soldered on is the only option. As to the dvd I would remove it (one screw holds it in either on the bottom or under the keyboard) finding the model number and ordering a new one on ebay
I long + 3 short beeps or 3 short + 1 long beeps indicates memory problem.
The RAM module/s may need reseating to re-establish proper electrical contact.
If it still doesn't boot up then :-
Get the RAM module/s may be faulty, test the module/s in another laptop or get your friendly computer shop to test them.

Hello. Vista needs a repair. You will want to start by putting in your own vista disc or borrowing one from someone. If your laptop isn't booting from the disc, then enter the bios (by hitting f2 or f12 usually) at bootup and select the DVD/CD rom drive to boot first. When the vista disc loads you will want to select recovery tools. Then select "startup repair". That should fix your problem.
