Focus knob not working

First of all, make sure the projection lens is correctly inserted. The gear "rack" that runs down the side of the lens correctly should mesh with the white or black gear (color depends on gear vendor) that is pressed on the focus shaft.
Check to make sure the focus knob is secure on the focus shaft (when you turn the knob, the shaft should turn, too).
Finally, remove the projection lens and inspect that black or white gear on the focus shaft inside the projector: Is the gear present, and are all the teeth on the gear?
One or a combination of these 3 issues are more than likely the cause of your problem.

Steps to repair a digital camera lens

That depends on what's wrong with it. If the camera is reporting a "lens error" then try these procedures. If one or more of the glass elements are broken then the element(s) will need to be replaced. If the focusing gears are stripped then the gears will need to be replaced.

Hi I cannot get my F80 to autofocus. I have tried all my lenses on my Brothers F80 and they all work fine on his camera. I only bought the camera second hand a few days ago and i'm 99% sure when the...

If the gears are stripped, it will require an experienced tech to repair.

That being said, there should be a small switch near the lens mount to switch between auto and manual focus mode's, be sure that that switch is pointing to A. When set to M, the little screw recesses into the mount so it doesn't try to engage, when set to A, it'll extend very slightly.

Also, Nikon has manufactured two types of AF lenses - with the motor in the body and with the motor in the lens, as with most newer lenses. Your camera should have a small screw on the lens mount that drives the focus motor between the lens and the camera, but I'm not 100% certain on that. Your camera can focus lenses with and without this type of coupling. BUT, if that screw/motor in the body is not functioning, you'll only be able to use lenses which contain the focus motor inside them, or manual focus lenses (you can manually focus AF lenses too).

Auto focus drive not working. Makes a grinding noise and nothing happens. Sounds like a gear has stripped.

First try to use another lens If:
A. It does the same thing, bring your body to a camera repair shop.
B. It doesn't, you'll need to either buy a new lens or repair it at a camera shop.

My 100-400 lens sounds like gears are stripped hear gears grinding when camera trying to auto focus - is there someplace to repaired and is it worth repairing

You have a no-name branded and almost worthless lens which will have absolutely no after-sales support any more.

Repairs are therefore not cost effective and probably not possible. Just use the lens in manual focus mode from now on.

Focusing wheel is moving but it is not focusing at all

You can disassemble the focuser (look underneath for the screws, and look inside and see if the gears are actually engaging or STRIPPED.

Sometimes there is a screw that adjusts the tightness of the focuser.

Stripped gears on the focuser

Meade will not have parts, focusers are always replaced as an entire unit-- but if the mirror is still good you can buy a replacement focuser here:
