What that means is after you plug in the base set the #1 handset into the base charger for a few seconds, then put #2 handset into the base charger that registers it to that base at your house. continue on through the rest of them if you have more than 2 , They only need to be in the base for about ten seconds, then it should or might say registered on the screen,,Good Luck

Put a new battery in my phone, now it gives me an out of rane message. how do I fix this?

I don't know what model it is but try these:

1. Check the main base is powered up!
2.Take out the battery again and edit a few mins and return it. Place the handset on the base. Now try.

3. If that didn't work you are probably going to to reassign the handset to the base. Check your manual on how to do that.

How do i take my uniden home phone off of search?

place the handset into the main base for 30 seconds or so. This should reset the handset to recognize the base. If it is both handsets that are doing this, plug a hard-wired phone into that cord and jack to verify there is dial tone.

Can't talk on both phone at same time. second on is always dead.

The DXI4286-2 is an Analog phone, it does not allow for both handset to be used at the same time. You can transfer a call from one handset to another, but cannot talk on both at the same time.
The following is from the user's manual for your phone:

Unavailable message is displayed
on the LCD screen of the
handset.
• Make sure the other handset is not already in use. Both handsets cannot be in talk mode at the
same time.
• Place the handset in the main base for at least 5 seconds to re-register to the main base.
• Make sure the handset is not too far from the main base when trying to use.

You might want to try one of the DECT or a Digital 2.4 or 5.8 GHz phones, they allow you to use multiple handsets at the same time.

Registering DSS7905 Accessory Handsets
Your phone supports a total of ten (10) cordless handsets. Handset(s) supplied in the box with the phone base are
pre-registered at the factory. If you purchase an accessory handset, you need to register the handset before use.
Only one handset can be registered at a time. When charged, pre-registered handsets display a handset ID number.
Handsets that have not been registered display.

Before registering the DSS7905 accessory handset, the battery pack MUST be charged for 15-20 hours.
To register the DSS7905 handset:

Place the handset in the telephone base charging cradle to begin registration.
During the registration process, HANDSET REGISTERING will appear in the LCD. When REGISTRATION
COMPLETE. is displayed; the handset has been registered to the base. If REGISTRATION FAILED. appears,
please try these steps again. When you register an accessory handset to the base, the handset ID will be
assigned.

Note:
If an accessory handset has ever been registered to a base, you must reset the handset before you can
register it to a new base. See Resetting the Handsets on page 24.

I don't know where a manual can be found, but I know you need to place each handset in the main cradle / base station for at least 20 seconds for the handset to get Registered to that base station.
