Question about Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-32FS120 32" TV
Same TV, same problem, SONY TRINITRON KV32HS500...won't turn on...stand by light blinking 7 times...it turned on eventually and then after turned off wouldn't do it for weeks...yadda yadda...it's been weeks!! since the last time. I've done EVERITHYNG in the book, I started by calling Sony and after following their steps nothing happend. I even asked(after hearing others with the same issue) if this TV had a recall or a manufacture deffect, of course they said NO, which after reading ALL this postings I find very hard to beleive...I called 3 repair centers, 2 Sony authorized, and one local. The estimate price is anywhere between $300+ to $600+, depending upon the "flyback" or "conection board" needing only a repair or a replacement...Now, is this worth the money, time and effort???? after reading that some people had gone through that route only to have the SAME problem later and be out few hundreds $$,I conclude it is NOT. The warranty for this repair is only up to 90 days best case scenario...I appreciate if the people form FIXYA, had an input, but honestly in my case this is just for venting. It is a shame that SONY doesn't own up to their products when is clear that this is a manufacture problem or al least, just a aweful quality product...I just wanted to thank you for your postings, beacuse today I decided NOT to repair this "art work", you saved me few hundred bucks and more frustration. One thing is clear though, I will NEVER buy another SONY PRODUCT....feewwww I feel better now!! MY SONY IS NOT WORKING HAVE THE SEVEN BLNKING LIGHTS AND IT SOUNDS LIKE ITS GOING TO TURN ON ..... THEN NOTHING! CALLED SONY ... NO HELP! DOES ANYONE KNOW THE COST OF THE HORIZANTAL DEFLECTION STOP? AND SHOULD I EVEN BOTHER REPAIRING THIS? SO UOSET ONLY HAD THIS SET FOR 4 YEARS. THOUGHT IT WOULD LAST MUCH LONGER!
Yeah you're totally right, this series is prone to these symptoms. At this point, because of the flat panels dropping in price, I wouldn't bother unless I owned it and I'm a TV tech!
put your $600 into a flat panel and you will be half way to a great new TV (with a little luck) The new flat panels don't have all the high voltage flyback circuits so they are more reliable in general.
I have had good luck with my hitachi 50" plasma so far going on 2yrs.
