The fridge came with the house so we dont know age of it. It was ok for 1st 5 or 6 months then we noticed a really bad smell everytime we opened the fridge. We have cleaned it with bleach etc but it will not go away. Its revolting.
Can anyone help ????
I had a similar problem with an unbearable smell, not inside, but outside the refregeration compartment. it was from the defrosted liquid that gets stored in a small open tank at the bottom on the rear side of the fridge. over time , particles settle along with water and gives a rooten smell, cleaning this tank solved it.

Sorry but your model number doesn't register with me in the USA. My experience tells me that the plastic water line from the filter to the water tank to the dispenser outlet is your problem. Replace those parts and you should be ok. Hope this helps.
If you are referring to the drip pan that on the bottom of the fridge, that could be the source of your odor problem. Take the pan out and check to see what is in it. Normally there should only be just water that comes from the defrost cycle.
I would shut down the refrigerator and give it a good clean out with soap n water, if it is cooling ok i suspect the previous owners cleaned it with an abrasive cleaner like oven cleaner. Freon really does not smell that bad...maybe a little like propane.
do you have any frost on the wall of the freezer?
and do you still have your old control board?
if yes check in the back of the board if there are any burned connections black connections, and feel free to put your nose on it and smell for a burning smell
i dont know how much will it smell now but that is the easiest way to check the board
ge side by side fridges have the control board problem which you replaced and the defrost heater
if you have a lot frost on the back freezer wall you need a new dual defrost heater
if you dont check the new board you put in for burning
if thats ok too
check your compressor if its really really hot
if it is try cooling it down with some paper towels and cold water
put about 5 so so wet towels on top of compressor and 5 on bottom and use a couple to wipe down the middle of the compressor
if you got any questoins feel free to ask
Unplug fridge. Remove the panel on the back of the fridge look for dead rodents or fungal growth in the drain pan. consult your local appliance parts distributor for a product called kleene air or try www.reliableparts.com
1.What is the model and age of your fridge? 2.Did you ever spill some exotic type foods or curry or so forth? 3.Describe what it smells like? 4.Did you empty the fridge and wash it out?
I have know people who have emptied there fridge and washed it out with a solution they mixed of 10%bleach and 90 % water to extract a Foul odor. In the hospitals they use 30% bleach and 7% water solution. BUT I would be afraid for the walls of the fridge being plastic or vinyl. I do not know how bad the smell is for your fridge, but I recommend to my customers to keep an open box or two of baking soda in their fridge and this absorbs odors pretty well. Change them once a month. They are dirt cheap at Sam's club or fifty cents a small box in the supermarket. Waiting your response to my first questions!!
Huuum I hope that I solved your problem with one or all my suggestions! Please remember to leave a rating!
Hi, i have the same problem with my Homeking fridge. Because it is a frost free firdge, there is a little resevoir at the back, with a small little tube leading from the base of the fridge into it. There are 2 screws holding it in place. Unscrew these but keep the resevoir firmly in place as the nasty parmesan-type smell is actually stagnant water and you really really dont want to spill it. Empty it and then what i did was bleach and anitbacterialise the resevoir tray and the little tube thing. Though I had the problem solved but now it is doing it again less than 2 months after this, so I'm going to contact the people who sold it to me. This is how you get rid of the smell though!!
