I own a Cannon Canoscan LiDE 70 scanner. When I use the copy option to print using my printer I get the message "Unable to scan. Make sure that there is enough memory on the target disc." I have an HP color laser printer 2600n. I've tried to reinstall the software and close down all other applications without success

    I feel this is a scanner problem and not a printer problem. I can scan in the photo mode and save it to a file without problem. I can't use the copy mode.

    I'm not sure I understand the solution to remove files from the target drive. How do I determine where that is?

Try to use the Windows scan utility its quit good in scanning.

step1: Change where temporary files are saved (Toolbox) For an unknown reason, the computer is not allowing temporary data to be written to the general folder chosen by Toolbox at the time of install.

  1. From the CanoScan Toolbox, click the Settings button.
  2. At the bottom you will see a section that states, "Select Folder Where Temporary Files are Saved:".
    Click the Browse button.
  3. Browse to a folder, such as C:\Temp, and then click OK.
  4. Click OK again to exit the Settings window.
  5. Try scanning again.
step2:
Create a new admin user account and then attempt the operation again under that account
To create a new user account, follow the steps below.
Windows XP
  1. Click Start and then Control Panel.
  2. Double click User Accounts.
  3. Click Create a new account in the Pick a task list box.
  4. Type the name that you want to use for the account, and then click Next.
  5. Select Administrator for the account type, and then click Create Account.
step 2:
Uninstall / Reinstall the CanoScan Toolbox It is recommended to download and install the latest version of the CanoScan Toolbox.

Check the hard drive to see if you have ample space for this info. if that checks out, you may have driver issues and will have to update them. the updated drivers may be on the manufactures website under the support tab.

Your concern could best be described in its manner of operation.

  • When you scan in photo mode, it is saved in a particular folder. That folder has unlimited free space (technically limited to whatever free space you may have in your hard drive);
  • When you copy to print, the scanned copy is initially stored in your Temp folder. If the set allocation is already full, then error as you posted would be displayed. To address this, you can try:
  1. deleting the contents of your Temp folder; click on Empty Recycle Bin; and/or
  2. right click on your Recycle Bin, increase 'Maximum size of Recycle Bin'.

Perform a clean up of the disk where the files are saved to, delete any unwanted doc, pics, movies and tunes, also uninstall any unused software, this will clear space on the drive which sounds like the initial problem, also download ccleaner to clean the temporary internet and temp files that are stored in hidden file in drive c:

Its the scanner problem as its normal setting got corrupted.the printer is absolutely perfect.internal software fault.

    The Canon website says that if you are attempting the Copy command using the Canoscan Toolbox, then to uninstall the application and reinstall using the latest version.

    You indicated having uninstalled and reinstalled, but, did you check that you were installing the latest version? If you just reinstalled what you had, then check that it was version 12.1.0. To check, you can usually open the program and there will be an "About" button somewhere within the program.

    The website also indicates it could also be where the files are being saved. -




    1. From the CanoScan Toolbox, click the Settings button.



    2. At the bottom you will see a section that states, "Select Folder Where Temporary Files are Saved:".
      Click the Browse button.



    3. Browse to a folder, such as C:\Temp, and then click OK.



    4. Click OK again to exit the Settings window.



    5. Try scanning again.

    Reply back if any of these worked.

3. Click OK.
4. Go back into Settings
5. Click Defaults
6. Click OK.

Check your scanner software sttings and change the target folder.

    This problem happens often when you save the scan on an external disk.

    Open the scanner software and check settings. There must be a setting for the target folder, this may be pointing to CD or an USB memory.

    If you do not manage to do the settings you can also do a system restore to a date before you had the problem for first time.

    You can start Sistem restore from :

    Start>>Programs>>Accessories>>System tools>>System restore.

    or from the control panel

I have a canon MG5220 printer and unable to scan properly the messages I receive are saying Scanner turned off, disconnected from LAN, code 2,145,50. Printing pictures and all other printing jobs work...


Regarding the Cannon scanner error 2145,50. I note you have tried to fix this, but failed. The actual problem is that the scanner will not communicate with the computer correctly if it is connected through a USB hub. A direct connection to the computer cures it.
I know, I had that problem. I am a retired elctronics design engineer.

Are you scanning from Toolbox? Make sure the correct scanner is selected in the Settings section.

What OS is this? Try scanning from various applications.
Does the scanner react at all at any time?

Make sure you have installed ScanGear and not just Toolbox.
