I bought an LG external DVD burner model GE20LU10 yesterday. It says on the box that it would work on Mac. Nothing inside on the manual or CD says anything about it working on a Mac. I've called...

install an LG burner on a MAC
if the burner shows as connected or mounted on your screen you just have to install or use your burning utility i.e. nero, sonic, or whatever you have installed on your mac.
when you open the program and have your files already processed and ready to burn, it will ask you what unit you want to use for the task, open the menu and select your burner, click next or continue, the encoding will start, when it finishes the encoding the burner will start.
if you are using a USB connection it should work with your software

I want my dvd to work with multy region. hy system is OSX by Mac.

videolan ( http://www.videolan.org/vlc )

That should allow you to play any dvds ( as long as you go into system preferences ) and select vlc as the default dvd player by going into cd's and dvd's section.

If you want to make your drive region free then there is the possibility it will kill your dvd drive if not done correctly as per here

All flashing of dvd drives needs to be done under windows so I would advise using bootcamp and not vmware fusion or parallels as that is just a virtualisation of windows not actually running windows as per using bootcamp.

I take no responsability for what you do with the information provided and am only answering your question so be warned.

I would advise just using VLC that way it will still work but without the need to flash your dvd drive.

There are windows utils but I dont think you can get os x utils.

Unless you use mac the ripper or something of the sorts. There are dvd decryption utils to decrypt the dvds to your hard drive but you will have to google for these as I am not going to help with how to get passed the css encoding on dvds as this breaches copyright.

Hl-dt-st dvd-ram gsa-h55n LG DVD drive not reading DVDs recently

Hello,
It would appear that the problem you are experiencing could be due to 1 of the 2 following items;

1. Re-install the software driver & software that came with the drive.

2. Set the region /Country that the drive will be working in or the language that you understand (USA=Region 1). It should be noted here that this option has a limitation of being changed up to 5 times but once it hits the fifth time the drive will be permanently set to that region and can not be changed anymore for the rest of the drives lifetime!!! The drive will usually work fine once it has been set (the default from the factory is ZERO (NOT SET)) and that may work fine for a while but it should be set to a region and it will understand all previously burnt /movie dvds that have this option set in the data already.

Good Luck!

Problem burnind and reading!

Check that the writable DVDs you are using are compatible (+/-) with your LG DVD-RAM.
Go to Windows Explorer and check to see if the Sony drive is visible. It may not be connected or the Jumper switch may be set incorrectly.
Check you have drivers installed, take a look in Hardware manager.
Sometimes, it's a little difficult to copy CDs and DVDs when you have more than one burning suite installed - for some reason, they 'just don't get along'. Try uninstalling any suites other than Nero.
Or it may just be that your LG CD-RW drive is just that, and your DVD-RW drive is just that. So it wouldn't be possible to write DVDs on the CD-RW and CDs on the DVD-RW? Though I would assume Nero would detect that and use your hard-drive as temporary storage.
In Nero SmartStart, have you selected the CD or DVD tab to correspond to the project you're burning?

Playing PC DVD roms problem

Dvd drives can read from both DVD and CD however due to technological limitations most DVD-ROM or RAM read up to slightly higher speeds for CDs than DVDs.

When burning DVDs professional companies that make prerecorded disks burn their disk at low speeds in an effort to achieve both compatibility and low errors, that is the reason their DVDs play on most DVD-ROMs. However DVDs me and you burn at home and work at high speeds are prone to errors and incompatibility with low reading speed drives.

As a result if your DVD-ROM has a low maximum reading speed then it can only read those prerecorded DVDs and only DVDs recorded at low speeds provided thre are not scratched.

I believe you managed to read those DVD movies if they were pre recorded.
