Change the batteries in the drums (and guitar if needed) make sure the console is turned off. After you change the batteries, it should start working like new. If it happens again just change the batteries.
Im guessing due to needing batteries that your Guitar is the Wireless type ?!
Have you correctly Synchronised your Xbox 360 with the Guitar controller ?
to do this, Turn on the Xbox and Guitar press the round "sync" button on the bottom of the guitar, next to its Ethernet port, and also press the small round sync button on the Xbox 360 (located to the left of the memory slots on the front face) at the same time, the rings of light on both the Xbox and the guitar will Turn in a clockwise motion letting you know they are synching, after that the Xbox will assign the guitar to a controller slot. then it should work.
If this doesn't work then im afraid your guitar may have a faulty wireless chip, which would require you to get a replacement.
