Nothing happens when I press the grind button

Bought it a few days ago, and don't remember where i put the manual. I figured  I could just plug it in and it would work. Everything is securely in place.

There's usually some sort of "tongue" on the cover of a coffee grinder that activates a safety switch when the cover is completely in place. Be sure the cover IS completely in place ,and be sure that the little tongue hasn't broken off . . . I have a simple grinder that needs the lid on, because it pushes a little rod down into a hole and activates the grinder. It's designed so that you can't actually activate the blade without the cover in place; of course, a paperclip *could* activate it, but that wouldn't be very safe, now would it?

How many seconds of grind for standard drip grind

I've long ago lost the manual that came with my grinder (I actually don't remember if it even had one), but I don't think it listed grinding times. You just grind a few seconds and check, then grind a little more if it's still too coarse. Unlike a burr grinder which is adjustable, in a blade grinder the same grind time may result in different consistencies as you change beans. By now I've just learned how long to hold the button for the different beans I buy, and the first few times I try a new blend or varietal I have to adjust the time. I think you'll just need to experiment and then you'll know what works best for your tastes.

Tip

If it doesn't work, it may be the On/Off switch.

I have had this grinder for a number of years. About 3 years ago we moved and upon arrival I plugged it in, loaded some beans and pressed the on button - Nothing. Now I know a little bit about these things & I was sure it was not the motor. I completely disassembled the Burr Grinder. It comes apart by removing the rubber feet on the bottom, then removing the screws under the feet. The top part comes apart by removing the screw from the 4 corners (it is easiest if you remove the timer board first). You need a long Philips screwdriver. Before you do this, make sure you are comfortable messing with electronics etc. The last screw to remove the top is under the grind catcher area directly underneath the timer rheostat. Once I had the top off, there is a small circuit board with the timer rheostat (a liner rheostat, not circular) and the On/Off switch. I measured the resistance of the On/Off switch and there was no difference when I pressed the button, obviously a bad switch. The switch is a small, about0.170" thick switch. I was able to find a switch at Radio Shack that was actually the same except it was thinner. I unsoldered the old switch and found a little piece of solid rubber used for gluing on the bottom of something you don't want marred. It was about 0.95", so it raised the new switch up just enough to make contact with the button on the lid when it was pressed. Attached wires to the new switch, soldered it in, put it back together, and fired it up. Works like a charm.

Hey Guys, after reading several threads about this, I just about to throw in the towel and buy a new one (actually, I placed an order for one already). Last ditch effort, I took out the hopper and I noticed all those grounds at the bottom. While it did not look like it's plugged up completely, it sure surprised me that so many grounds were down there.

I drink cappuccino, and I set my grind settings to FINE. Over the probably 2 years I had this machine, I never cleaned it. I never took the hopper off and when it stopped working, I thought the electrical had burnt out.

When I took off the hopper, I cleaned the grinding mechanisms, and spin the grinder with what I used to clean (a butter knife, since I no longer have the spoon/brush anymore). I then plugged it back in, turned it out, and it's spinning like nothing had ever happened!

BEST THING TO HAPPEN TO ME AFTER I PLACED THE ORDER FOR A NEW ONE. Needless to say, I went back online and cancelled my order.

Hope this can help someone out if yours "stopped" working.

My DeLonghi KG79 coffee grinder has stopped working after one grind. When the on button is pressed nothing happens. I tried changing the plugs fuse... any thoughts? cheers Kev

I should imagine one of the safety switches are not closed. The lid of the maker must be on and the filler has to have its cap on and inserted in the machine.

Same thing happened to me about 1 year ago. I took the machine apart and determined the issue to be in the circuit board. I bypassed the board and wired the power cord directly to the motor. The machine began to work and is still operating fine. The only drawback, of course - having bypassed the circuit board and switch, you now are on full manual operation. Plug the power cord into the wall outlet and the motor spins; when you are finished grinding you have to remove the cord from the power source to stop the motor. I am OK with this - beats 35 - 50 dollars for a new grinder. Dave

Whatever the setting is at the grind is always fine. What can I do to re-calibrate the grinder?

Grind Adjustment Tools required: Large blade and medium Phillips head screwdrivers In order to adjust the grind, follow these steps (Refer to figure A): 1. Remove all coffee from the hopper. 2. Set selector knob to the finest setting (Espresso or Turkish) depending on the model. 3. Loosen both knob retainer screws in selector knob one turn only. 4. While pressing the bag switch, located behind the spout, press the START button so that the grinder will run during adjustment. 810 model - Press the ON or START button so that the grinder will run during adjustment. 5. With the grinder still running, turn the adjusting screw in the center of the selector knob slowly to the right until a slight clicking noise is heard. Immediately turn the adjusting screw to the left one grind setting. This is the finest grind obtainable. 6. Tighten both of the knob retainer screws. Once the ESPRESSO grind has been set (Turkish for Model 835, 875, 890), the other grind settings will automatically set correctly. 7. Press the STOP or OFF button. IMPORTANT: Always be sure the grinding burrs are not touching while the machine is running on the ESPRESSO/TURKISH setting. Otherwise serious damage to the motor may result. dr_buckhead.png
