I bought my hp c1300 Scan, Print, copier. about a year a ago. In a course of that year i've used the scanner a few times and it worked great. However, last week I wanted to scan some work information and the scanner did not work for me. I open the top + place the paper inside bottom right conner as indicated + closed the top + press the star scan key (the last key in the menu). and nothing happens

Try this, unplug it from wall. Wait 5 minutes, plug it in & try again. You may have to reinstall the software since it's been awhile. Sometimes the updates that "good old gates" sends us messes with our hardware drivers ect.

You need to install the software that came with the printer. Then in the HP program group there will be a number of programs, one of which will allow you to scan. Try all the programs if you do not know which one to use (on my printer I have to use the HP Solution centre program).
Hi, If you want to scan open Microsoft Word and go to Insert -> Picture -> From scanner or camera. You can do the same with Paint. Go to File->From scanner or camera. Then you will select your scanner and scan your document or photo.

I bought a new printer as I could not get help from HP support. I bought the HP 6310 3 years ago and it has never worked, except to print. No scan, no fax, no copy. I even paid for an additional year of warranty. The HP support people do not have a clue and are unable to come to the conclusion it is hardware related. When I realized they did not know what they were doing I pointed out that if it was software that was loaded on either of my computers, one Vista and one XP Pro, why did it not work and why would I be unable to make a copy by just using the copy button? The only comment I got was "could be" but that the only database the HP support people have access to is for software issues and he would not be able to help me.
It is my firm belief that the scan beds on these must be junk or the printer control panel and buttons do not function. I have read numerous reports of problems on many web sites, all scan related, can't copy or fax. I must have spent a total of 6 hours in several support calls to no avail. The will never suggest it could be hardware related. They even made me have a new disk sent to me $$ and of course nothing improved. But they made me a really GOOD DEAL on a new printer with a year of support included. He even had the nerve to try to sell me another extended warranty. I asked him why I would do that when I had absolutely no faith that they would do a better job in the future. If you have one that will not scan documents no matter what you do and it is out of warranty, you had better buy yourself a new one and get over it.
In your case, the scanner light is not lit during the scan or copy. If you print something from the pc, it would print just fine. Try to powercycle the printer, then try copying again. If it persist, scanner is defective but you may still use it to print from pc.
Scanner utility is pretty much come with the software. You can input the paper like you input for fax, either on the top scanner or the scanner itself and then just press scan on your printer. It will automatically scan to your computer. Please make sure your computer is connected to the printer.
