Question about Dell E771MM 17" CRT Monitor
My monitor keeps giving me a error message sayin "control menu locked" how do i fix it?
SOURCE: Problem with Control Panel
It sounds like theres a front panel button that has become intermittant and making contact all by itself. Sometimes when you clean the screen, the cleaner will drip down between the crt face aqnd the cabinet and make the switch in front go bad. Im not sure if this is the case in your problem but its a start. If you didnt spill anything or drip anything into the front panel then your maicroprocessor could be causeing the problem, or the 5 volts that feed the micro could be noisy ie, bad filter capacitor in the power supply. Now as im sure your aware of the hi voltage inside these sets? Its best if you dont have the training to get a pro to assist you as this hi voltage can hang around inside the set even if its unplugged. Good Luck

How far from the sides is the image? If it?s just an inch or two you can use the monitor adjustments to expand the image to the edge of the screen where it was previously. If its too far in then the only option is to have it repaired. You didn't mention where you are but in the US even a minor monitor repair that involves at tech opening the monitor is going to cost at least $45, perhaps more. That?s a lot of money for a monitor worth about $100 new so a new or used monitor may be a more cost effective option for you.
