Question about Brother IntelliFAX 775 Plain Paper Thermal transfer Fax

1 Answer

Strange problem I can fax to any fax number that I have to except for one particular number. Whenever I fax to this person the fax rings the number and the paper starts going through but then it stops half way through. I then get a transmission report saying "poor line condition". I just don't get it. It is always that same fax number that we have problems with. We have never been able to fax to them. But they can fax to us, with no problems. Any ideas??

We have told them and they just say that they receive faxes from other people all the time. But it is nice to know that it isn't our problem. Thanks

The problem is with their system, not yours. they are probably missing lots of faxes. They may for instance have a few phone lines which receive faxes called a "hunt". If one or more of their lines are bad they may not even realize it.

I suggest you call them and tell them what is going on.

Hi my hp 640 will not answer a fax call, but will answer only if we pick up the hand set.

Issue When the all-in-one product is sharing a phone line with voice calls, some calls are interrupted by fax tones. Follow the steps below to solve the problem.Step one: Check the Rings to Answer setting If Auto Answer is enabled, the HP fax product will answer the phone line when the number of rings reaches the number of rings specified in the Rings-to-Answer setting. When voice calls will be received on the same phone line as faxes, set to rings-to-answer to 6. If you do not want the fax to answer automatically, either turn off Auto Answer from the front panel and receive faxes manually (this may result in lost faxes) or subscribe to a distinctive ring service from the phone company (if available). Refer to the Answering faxes manually section below to learn how to answer faxes manually or refer to the Using distinctive ringing section below for more information about using distinctive ringing. The Rings-to-answer setting for the HP Officejet 500 and 600 series products can only be checked or set using the all-in-one software on the computer. Our fax machine says recieve error and will not recieve faxes

I presume the machine has its own telephone line. Lift the handset and make a telephone call. Can they hear you ok? Can you hear them OK? If both ok then have them ring the fax and you answer it with the handset. Can they hear you ok? Can you hear them ok? or can you hear crackle on the line or any other strange high frequency noises? If you hear these noises then your telephone company will need to clean the line. Thats usually why this problem arises. the SF5100 was Samsungs best fax in my opionion. It did not suffer from any problems except wear and tear like all machines.

I can only receive faxes not send when i try to send it just keeps ringing will not transmit

If you dial a number and just hear ringing that means the other end is not answering. Even if a person or answering machine picked up the ringing would stop. The problem is at the other end.

How do you set the number of rings before thepick up?

I don't know for that particular model, but it should be in the manual somewhere. If not, what I like to do is just play around with the settings until I find the right one. If the fax machine has a screen on it, that should be much easier.

Fax machine problem

You are hearing the fax machine hand shake. You should have a dedicated line for your fax.

If not scroll through the menus and set your fax to the maximun NUMBER OF RINGS.

Setting personalized ring

Its called distintive Ring. This is the instructions from the manual -

VERY IMPORTANT
If you have Voice Mail or a TAD (Telephone Answering Device) and want to keep
one of your phone numbers dedicated only to fax calls, you must leave the fax machine
in MANUAL mode at all times while using the distinctive ring feature. Here’s why:
Manual mode will never pick up a call by itself, since it is «Neutral ». When the fax
machine is in this « neutral » mode, the Distinctive Ring Feature can be activated. The
distinctive ring feature is actually an answering mode. So, do not activate FAX ONLY
mode or FAX /TEL mode while using distinctive ring; otherwise, the fax machine will
answer calls for all the numbers.
Registering the Distinctive Ring Pattern
1
Set the fax machine to MANUAL mode.
2 Press Menu/Set, 0, 1.
3 Press to select DISTINCTIVE:SET?, and then press Menu/Set.
4 Press to select the prestored ring pattern you want to assign, and then press
Menu/Set. (You will hear each pattern as you scroll through the four patterns.)
Be sure to choose the pattern assigned by the Telephone Company.
5 Press Stop/Exit.

It could be a compatibility issues between the two faxes. If the other fax is particularly old its communication speed could be too slow for your fax.

Also don't rule out the line on there end. Many times in my job I've had Telephone company's check the line remotely and say its ok but its not until they come out to site that they find an actual fault.

Do a manual reception. Put your fax reception mode from automatic to manual. When the fax rings in pick up the line with the hook or speaker phone button and then press the start button. This rules out a fair part of the line correction. If you can receive of course.
