Kitchen lighting problem.

Started with flashing Nook area fixture over week or so. Then fixtures in Kitchen and Garage did not work. So, I replaced the breaker to make sure it is not the breaker problem. Lights are still out. Check the switch junction box in kitchen with voltage tester, black wire is Hot. So if the current is going thru the switch, why are the lights not turning on?

Open neutral. check the fixture/switch closest to the bkr panel that is not working for a bad connection in a wire nut, if not there, move to next fixture/switch closer to the panel

My fluorescent shop light fixtures sometimes does not go on and sometimes the bulbs just flicker without giving much light. What's wrong?

If your shop is in your garage, and it is cold outside, the two-pin fluorescent tubes don't work very well. Garage lighting (fluorescent) should be the HO (high output) type. It operates on the same voltage. The tubes are not interchangeable. You need a HO fixture. If your shop is inside your house, then flickering tubes (assuming that you tried changing them out with new ones) indicate a bad ballast inside the fixture. You can either change out the ballast, or for almost the same price, replace the fixture.

I remodeled my kitchen and replaced my leviton dimmer switch with another brand. After installation I turned the light fixture on. Only one of the three lights of the single fixture turned on for...

Hi Leonard,

I'm a licensed electrician and will be happy to help you get this working again. I suspect an incorrectly wired or incompatible switch or a load that is not designed for dimming. To know which one(s) is the problem and to be able to provide a solution, I need a little more information.

1) What was the old switch brand and model number?
2) What is the new Leviton switch's model number?
3) What type of light bulbs are you trying to operate in the 3 fixtures?
4) What is the number of and wattage of each lamp in the fixtures?
5) How many switches operate the lights?
5a) If more than one switch is used, what is the brand and model number of the other switch(es)?

Thanks

Hardwiring shop lights to an existing light. I have a flourescent shop light with a two prong plug on the end of it that I would like to hardwire into another light fixture in my garage. How do I know...

If the prongs on the plug are of different sizes, it's a polarized plug and the smaller one is the hot wire, which should be connected to the black wire in the existing fixture. If the prongs are not of different sizes, then the fluorescent fixture doesn't require a polarized plug, and either wire will do.

I want to install a light in my garage i have a live source but how do i connect it to the light and wall switch

My first response would be to seek help from an electrician or someone qualified to perform this work.
If you are going to attempt it, you will need the following items:
- electrical box
- light switch
- light fixture
- wire ( ask you local hardware store clerk what is recommended or needed to meet code in your area.

Disconnect power at breaker to your source.
From your source,
- connect wires to electrical box. then to;
- connect wires to switch then to;
- connect wires to another box at the fixture
- connect fixture to the box.

box=====switch=====box=fixture.

Tradewind range hood- model PSL736: both lights out, fan works

The screws by the lights probably only hold the fixture in place. If you took the screws out you would only get access to the fixture and maybe some wiring. If you have already replaced the lights you can assume its not the fixtures. Not likely both fixtures failed at the same time. The common problems would be the light switch. You would need to gain access to the switch and then check that for power.

You already know house power is good because the fan is working, But since both lights failed and new bulbs don't fix the problem it would most likely be a switch.

According to their website it looks like that whole front panel should come off including the fixtures and the switches.

MAKE SURE THE POWER IS TURNED OFF......REMEMBER THE FAN WON'T WORK IF THE POWER IS OFF.

Once you remove that you can check the wiring harness for the lights. You may also see wire nuts on the harness double check those as well.
