Hi and welcome to FixYa,

To my understanding, older Palm devices do not ordinarily work with Vista. However, there are workarounds which you could try. One is:

  • Install the Palm software and drivers under Windows XP SP2, and perform at least one hotsync.
  • Export the registry key [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics] from Windows XP SP2.
  • Boot into Windows Vista Beta 2.
  • Press the HotSync button on the Visor cradle, & use the Device Manager to update the drivers. When prompted, don't have Vista search online for drivers, but instruct it to search in the USB_Driver directory on your Windows XP SP2 partition (in my case, this was D:\Program Files\Palm\USB_Driver).
  • Then, ensure the HotSync Manager is not running (right-click on the systray icon, and choose exit).
  • Import the registry key you exported in step 2.
  • Set the HotSync Manager (HOTSYNC.EXE) to run as Administrator, and run in Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode.
  • Restart the machine and boot into Vista.
Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Http://www.palminfocenter.com/news/9222/palm-desktop-windows-vista-compatibility/ Palm has posted information regarding Windows Vista compatibility with its devices. The Palm Desktop software, used by Palm OS devices, will install and operate on Vista. Hotsyncing and PIM synchronization should work according to Palm's Vista Information page.
Some items are not currently compatible with Windows Vista. These include certain carrier provided Dial-up Networking (DUN) software, Palm Quick Install and the LifeDrive mobile manager software. Palm says to check back for future updates on these issues.

Windows Mobile
Windows Mobile Treo users can use Windows Vista's new device synchronization tools called Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC).
Palm says Windows Mobile users should not use the Getting Started Installation CD with Vista as Microsoft ActiveSync is not compatible with Windows Vista.
Check back with Palm's Vista Information page for the latest.

Install the software on the cd that came with the device then restart the computer. Plug in the device to the computer and it should be working.

You need to install software from disk or from download first, then you connect the usb data cable to computer, and start palm software.

How can I transfer the data from Z222 to window7

Hello de nicola:

I have an entire page devoted just to the Palm Z22, listed below.

Many people report issues with trying to connect the Palm Z22 to new 64 BIT Operating systems like Windows 7 and Windows 8, and although somewhat obscure and time-consuming to set up, this can be done. ONE known software company has a 64 BIT driver, which, when used with other software, can get the SYNC functions working again. Another method is to put a VIRTUAL Windows XP on the Windows 64 BIT Systems, and then SYNC using the already working WIndows XP to get the data from files on the "new" 64 Bit Systems, and back...

I also deal with battery problems, touch screen problems, maintenance, repair, and upkeep issues, so that you may find the page of value! It is at:

http://kidbots.com/WEBADD/Z22_PALM_PILOT/Z22_PALM_PILOT.html

I hope this gets your Palm Z22 up and running again, and keeps it that way...

good luck

Lost my Cd to my palm z22. Does any one know were I can download the porgram for my palm. So I can put info on my computer. :)

behoney56:

The information support page for the Palm Z22 has moved around over the past few years. It is now at

http://kb.hpwebos.com/wps/portal/kb/na/zire/z22/unlocked/home/page_en.html

As well, I have an entire web page devoted just to maintaining, repairing, and using the Palm Z22, at:

http://kidbots.com/WEBADD/Z22_PALM_PILOT/Z22_PALM_PILOT.htm

As the Palm Z22 ages, there are issues with old and dying batteries, with the touch screen deforming and becoming useless, and various DATA connectivity issues, since the new Windows 64 BIT Operating Systems did not yet exist when the Z22 was diss-continued.

On my web page are links and USER information on the various solutions that they found, as well as a bit of information that I discovered, which is hitherto unknown!

Hope these tid-bits of help get your Palm Z22 up and running properly...

good luck

No driver for Z22 compatible with Windows 7

windows 7 is new and not compatible with many software so you may not get to sync your palm Z22 by using windows 7. You need a model that is compatible with windows 7.

I tried to sinc my palm Z22 with my new computer, but It shows that my drivers aren't installed. what's wrong??????????????

Palm as a corporation went out of business years ago, and there are no drivers for the new Microsoft Windows versions that were made AFTER Palm no longer existed! HP (Hewlett Packard) bought the Palm Operating System and has the basic the basic drivers and manuals online, however, only "other" corporations that use various PALM type devices, now support interfacing. I have listed all those that I have found on my web page, dedicated to repairing, maintaining, and interfacing the Z22, at:
kidbots.com/WEBADD/Z22_PALM_PILOT/Z22_PALM_PILOT.html
I do not SYNC my Palm at all, so that you will have to rely on all the USER comments that I have included.

good luck

My computer went down and I lost my calender info that was on Palm. I have a Palm Z22 which still has my calender. Can I sync the handheld with the computer only?

Hello cskennedy:

Many people are asking the same question, as well as how to deal with touchscreen and battery problems etc.

I have really explored all the aspects keeping a Z22 up and running, and have a complete web page devoted to this.

I am repeating a previous answer below:

The support page for the Z22 has moved around over the last couple of years. HP (Hewlett Packard) bought PALM and still has a fairly good coverage of what WAS available. Beware that Windows has gone to 64 BITS with Windows 7, Windows 8 etc, so that older software does NOT immediately work.
There are many features of the Z22 such as NEWS and GAME web portals that are shut down, so that peripheral connectivity is at a minimum.
HP has the last known working, native, connection software at:
http://kb.hpwebos.com/wps/portal/kb/na/zire/z22/unlocked/home/page_en.html
On my web page at :
http://kidbots.com/WEBADD/Z22_PALM_PILOT/Z22_PALM_PILOT.html

I have all the patches, fixes, work-arounds, maintenance, tips and tricks I could find.

Hope that this helps you to get your PALM Z22 working and useful once again!

good luck

Won't synch calendar from Palm Desktop!

Older palm products and vista aren't compatible. You either needs to transfer info via bluetooth or upgrade your palm if you wish to continue using vista.

Palm z22 USB won't stay connected

Hi, I also had the same problem exactly the way you described it. What worked for me is putting in the original installation cd that came with the palm. Run the installation and I think the computer will recognize the palm and stay connected. Hope it works.
