If you had Problems that caused you to do a System Recovery, it Sounds like it could be your Harddrive.

Take disk out. Power down. Restart. See if will start up without a disk in it. Might be confused by your disk. Did you try to F8 or F9 while restarting to get into BIOS (trying to remember which one will boot you to BIOS). Then see if the CD/DVD was disable for boot up. Turn that back on if you can get into BOS so it will boot up you recovery disk.. If your OS is completely gone, you will have to reinstall...

Actually this is a hard drive fault most likely, or a faulty had drive. If you don't have a recovery disk you are going to have to start the machine and try to do a recovery to boot repair. You can usually access this with F10 or F12, not really sure on a gateway.

Startup repair won't run

"Unmountable boot volume" this problem is your hard disk partition which is failure to recognize & identify the operating system running on the hard disk. Reformat your hard disk and put another operating system to run again your computer.

This will either be an operating system error/glitch or a failed hard drive. You will need to perform a system repair with your recovery or operating system disc. If the repair doesn't take, then reformat the hard drive and install a new operating system. If the hard drive will not format, or you have any issues during or after the install, then the hard drive has failed and will need replaced.

I need a Acer Aspire 5315 -2142 recovery disk.

You might be able to boot from a Windows Vista DVD-ROM Disc and perform a System Restore back to a time when it was working and MAYBE it might work. I am not going to guarantee anything however.

Those discs will run you about 33.00

Black Screen

Thinking about this one I really think the video had nothing to do with the black screen. I would try to things one is reset the power management. Not know exactly what Powerbook you have I will give the most common way. Remove the Battery and the power cord from the powerbook, wait a few minutes then hold the power button for about 40 seconds. Then put the battery and power cord back in and restart it. The second thing to do is boot from the install disk that came with it and run the disk utility. I have also seen bad RAM do this but you would get at least a chime on startup.
