Not sure your model number is right. Bose 901 are speakers. Here is a video to show how a Bose CD tray was repaired. It might help.

bose 901s have 9 drivers at .75 ohms each wired in series, one of the drivers probably went south, and if one fails they all don't work. open the box and remove the drivers marking the wires for polarity(VERY IMPORTAINT) check with multimeter which driver (speaker) is open or over 1 ohm resistance, that's your culprit. take it to a recone shop for repair or order the replacement driver from bose. also check the condition of the surrounds, as after 30+ years they all probably need replacement. any competent speaker repair shop should be able to help at a cost of around $25 per driver. Also make sure you ALWAYS use the bose eq with these speakers.

yes! the specs look good, in fact the amplifier output matches the speakers, plus the ohms ratio is fine.

Unfortunately, these cases were glued together and put in place by a series of plastic pins and tabs not meant to be removed. There is no safe or healthy way of opening the case without causing some serious damage to the pins holding the inside speaker in place, plus the lip inside the case itself will break (not unglue). If you are handy with manual tools, you can use a small spatula and start prying off from between the case and the front cover at the the center of the speakers and go around it. You will hear the plastic and pins breaking, but if you take your time and be patient the cover and case will stay in shape. I will post a video on youtube on how to do this.

Keeping in mind that the 901's and multichannel recievers won't work unless you use an outboard amp for them, that should open up the choices pretty wide. But your MP3-compatible AVR MUST have front channel pre-outs. Any solid 100 watt x 2channel amp will drive them.

My $.02: anything strong and clean. I'm partial to Carver amps and have run mine with double M-440 cubes bridged to 400 watts per speaker at one time. Right now I'm pushing them with a single Carver M-100T (100 wpc) and it sounds as good without being dangerous.

What model of Bose, how connected on what channels? Do you know the impedance? If they came from one of their all-in-one systems you're playing with fire (almost literally) mixing them with non-Bose amplifiers.
