My e-mail address is being used for spam scam.

I have been informed by two of my e-mail addressees, who sent me a copy of what was sent to them. I have never heard of the company that sent them these spam e-mails. What can I do to stop this problem ?

GOOGLE WILL NOT LET ME EMAIL ALL OF MY ADDRESSEES BECAUS IT DOIES NOT RECOGNIZE ONE EMAIL ADDRESS....WHICH IS NOT IN MY ADDRESS BOOK!!

I would go through the list and make sure that the addresses all conform to user or user.name followed with @ and a domain name as in example, com

Since you are sending a mass of emails it appears that you may be replying-all to ab email sent to you. Look through each and every address on that list for any that do not conform to the syntax of an email address. Also, you cannot email to more than fifty recipients in one message.

It is my practice to use the Bcc if I am sending to a large group, and send it to myself, then Bcc eveyone on the list. Also before forwarding I edit out all of the header information.

One thing I hate is have to scroll three screens down past all of an assorted number of forwarded headers before I see what I am supposed to read. Additionally, by doing away with all of the previous recipients, their email address isn't going to land on an infected computer that is skimming all of the email addresses and using them for spam.

IN RECEIPT 0F eMAIL ADVISING I AM A RECIPIENT OF FUNDS IN BANK OF aMERICA

This email is a SPAM ... (sent to many email addresses) ... in hope that some unsuspecting person will fall for the SCAM. Don't bother responding to it. It will probably ask you for your name, personal and banking information, etc. and then ask you to send / wire money to them to be able to get money from them, or after receiving a fake/counterfeit check to deposit ... (it will bounce) ... after you send them some of your real, hard earned money !

Best to ignore the email ... mark it as a SPAM ... so that it will be tagged as a SPAM by the email programs, when it is sent to other email addresses.

Over the last few weeks I have received emails not addressed to me. some of these emails have been quite distressing as they have asked for payment for various things and services which I know nothing...

Don't panic. Email can be sent by anyone, to anyone, with no verification of anyone's identity. It is not uncommon for scammers to target people with email. They send out 1 million emails in one click, so that even if only 1 in 1,000,000 people will fall for their scam, they still get something. It is illegal, but too difficult and expensive to pursue.

Do not reply, do not pay. Mark messages as spam in Yahoo and go on with your life.

People have sent me mails to my yahoo account but when I log into yahoomail the mail is not seen. i.e new mails are not coming in at all. I have checked all the settings and they seemed OK. Please help

Send an email to any one of these people and ask them to use the 'Reply' function of their mail program. Specifically ask them to use the generated 'to:' address and not to type in your email address. You want to eliminate 'finger trouble (splelign erorrs)' as a possibility.

If you receive these replies, the problem might be with the senders not typing in your name perfectly. They could also be spelling the domain portion of the address incorrectly. gmail.com is not the same as gmail.net and gmail.us - if those even exist.

Check your spam folder. In gmail, I have never had a problem with real messages going in to the spam folder.I never even look anymore.

At a former employer i had lots of messages flagged as possible SPAM with the word SPAM added to the Subject field of the message.

I went to the Greta American Photo Contest web site and entered in the animal photo contest. They soon began sending me ads through the email. In their policy page, it clearly states that they WILL sell...

Never use your primary email address to enter those types of online contests. They are ALL sources of SPAM in one way or another.

Go to the Google homepage and click on the GMail link at the top of the page.
Create yourself a free GMail account, and then use that one when you want to enter those kinds of contests. That way you won't expose your personal and private email account address to unecessary sources of spam. If that sacrificial GMail account starts getting filled up with spam to the point of rendering it unusable, then just disable it and open a new one with a slightly different address.

If you want, you can even have the GMail account forward all the mail it receives to your primary email account. That way you still only have to check one account to see all your mail, but you can disable the forwarding anytime you like if the spam messages get too bad. Just look under the SETTINGS tab, then the FORWARDING tab when you eventually get your GMail account.

Good luck.

I have receive a mail which is write your email address has won congratulations 250,000.00 euro is that true?

Most likely it isn't true. Most of the time it is a scam especially on Yahoo mail. If the email seems very poorly written or is asking you for any personal information it is a scam. You could also look up who the email is from online to see if it is a scam. Just type in the name of the people that sent the email to you and "scam" in google.

Hello drobe07, That is definitely a scam site, do not respond to it. You can report the spam to Yahoo using the following link: You will have to login to complete the report. Once you submit the report go back into Yahoo mail and check the box next to the email and hit the spam button. Post a reply if you have any further questions. Thanks for using FixYa! Edward

I have sent two emails today but they did not arrive at the address I sent them to, address is good as thid email arrived, emails not in spam, is there any way I can find out where the emails went

The emails went to the addressee. If they didn't, you would get a notification saying something like this; "unable to deliver .....".
Someone else who knew the password could read it and delete it. Just a possibility. Or the addressee deleted it accidently.
I can't help you more.
Best wishes

I sent a friends email address to spam by mistake,I havent got any emails since how do I retrieve the address from spam and is it blocked by sending to spam

Hi, It is not your fault that your mail to your friend entered spam. Email service providers usually have that issue especially yahoo. Gmail is better in that it accepts most mail without spamming then. Mails in spam folders are usually automatically deleted after some time on Yahoo. What you need to do is tell your friends who use Yahoo to include your name in their address books. That way, when they get mail from you, it will not enter spam. You can always check your "Sent" folder for a copy of the mail you sent earlier that didn't get to them.
Cheers.

Hi..is there a way where on a yahoo account i can block mails from unknown addressee and receive mails ONLY and ONLY from those who are on my address book

Yes, indeed there is! But you will need to add the addresses one by one.
Here is what you need to do to block certain addresses:

1) Go to your inbox and look for this option (see below). It is just below the search button. Click it and select 'Mail Options'.

2) If you have chosen correctly, then it should take you to another page.

3) On the left pane you will see a list of options to choose from. Click on the 'Spam' option.

4) Choosing the spam option will present the extended options on the right side.

5) On the right side there will be a section for 'Blocked e-mail addresses'. You can specify all the id's to block. Then onwards you will only recieve from the ones you want.

6) As a shortcut you can also select the 'View' option and select 'Messages from my contacts option'. (See figure below).

Do not give your e-mail id on random sites. They are the ones responsible for sending you spam. Examples are dating and adult sites.
Also if the yahoo! server is busy you can do this another time.

Thank you for using fixya!
