Question about InFocus LP 600 Multimedia Projector

1 Answer

Internal mirror broken

I have an LP600, and the internal mirror is broken. It is a small 4-sided box that is made of mirrors, behind the color wheel. It was cutting off half of the image on the screen, so I took it apart and found that this little rectangular box had one side out of whack. Upon looking at it further, I found that the glue had just broken and not the mirror itself. Is there a way to fix this, or does someone know where I can get just this part? I didn't pay for the projector, it was free from my work, and I can have it. I just want to get the part or a way to fix it so that I don't have to pay an arm and leg for the repair. I don't have any images to show....We have the same problem with our projector so I'm trying to open it up to find the mirror. Any suggestions on how to open this projector besides taking out the screws at the bottom? The back and side covers seem to be kept in place by plastic clips, I don't want to just pull and break them.

Yellow green display

you may have a bad cable. if it was an internal problem, the menu wouldn't be the correct color. you may also want to reset the settings to factory default, just to cover the resolution issue.

Broken mirror replacement

You can contact a service center and try to get replacement parts. However, if you've never worked on projectors before, I strongly advise against it. The positioning of the internal components is critical for proper image display and focus. Also, proper positioning of mirrors and lenses is critical for heat dissipation. If this mirror was broken due to impact, there very well might be further damage that you can't see. ---rick

Internal mirror broken

Well without seeing the damage I would have thought Superglue would be your answer and just re afix the mirror if it is indeed undamaged .
Otherwise as it has a working bulb ( usually worth more than the actual machine? ) Maybe a replacement unit off ebay can be obtained you would also have a spare for any other repairs . .... Regards Vortash

Infocus image problem

That is caused by a collapsing light pipe.
This is a mirrored glass square component that is located directly behind the color wheel. It is comprised of 4 mirrored section approximately 40mm x 8mm that are glued together with a hi-temp adhesive to form a square. The artifact you see is one of these mirrored glass section's has come unglued and has moved inwards blocking one edge of the image. The edge of this shadow is not shar because this failure is not at a focal point.WHEW..all that being said it's possible to re-glue it if you are electro-mechanically savvy and have steady hands. If you need to take it to a service they will most likely just just replace the complete DLP engine (the whole optic assembly) Hold on to your wallet!!

Cheers

The light tunnel is between the color wheel and the mirrors. It is a square 4 sided tube, the inside is a mirror finish. the tube is either broken or the glue holding the assembly together has given out allowing the mirror to partially block the light. Advanced repair

LP600 - Grainy picture, very poor quality

Single chip DLP projectors use a spinning color wheel between the lamp and the DMD (mirror chip) to produce colors. If the wheel rotation/synchronization is disturbed, colors will not be displayed correctly.
In my case it looks like the wheel became un-synchronized, probably because the projector was dusty/dirty inside (a light senor is used to detect the wheel position), resulting in a grainy, slightly flickering image.
I simply blew out the components with a can of 'Dust-off' and, using a small tool, rotated the color wheel by hand to make sue it wasn't rubbing or jammed.
I reassembled & started the projector and the image was back to normal.

1/2 the screen is viewable

You would be wrong. Lamps do not do that. They either work or they don't, they do not cast shadows or give half an image.

What is going on is the light tunnel has failed. It is a small, 4-sided mirrored tunnel that focuses the light into the optical chamber. It is directly behind the color wheel. I've seen this probelm dozens of times.
