When you took the hot water hose off, did you check the little gauze strainer inside where the hose screws? That black in the water is iron and scale from the hot tank. See the video I added.
Screeching is normally belt slip. You can get a can of belt conditioner which makes it supple and grippy.
A GE washer making noise that sounds like squealing likely has a damaged drive belt. This rubber belt is suspended on a pulley, connecting the tub to the drive motor or transmission in front and top load washers. Wear and tear can cause the belt to loosen or fray, resulting in a squealing sound.

sounds like you may need to check your hot water heater for deterioration. since you have done all that you need to check your water supply. a water heater can deteriorate on the inside for a time before you will notice it. good luck
check the cold water hose the screen in the hose to the cold water, selenoid may be clogged or have hard water deposets, just clean out see if this helps
check the fill hose washer located in the washer cold water fill hose, they get clogged with lime and such, and when you replace the washer run hot water thru the hose to clean it out thoroughly,
In your problem you describe that you are getting hot water are you getting cold water too?. Make sure on the water valves are on the full open setting to eliminate a water pressure diffrence and any other valves connected to those water lines. If that checks out check for clogs in the hoses and filters that could be backed up. If that dosent fix the problem then its in the washer either the hot/ cold regulators or the timer.
Cold water pipe had become frozen. FYI this model of washer has a nice feature whereas you can test each component i.e. valves, by setting the timer and reading the LED's on the front panel. Instructions are in the schematic.
THE SOLENOID VAVLE IS DEFECTIVE,NEED TO REPLACE IT, ITS WERE THE HOT AND COLD HOSES CONNECT TO BEHIND THE WASHER WERE YOU CLEANED THE SCREEN. NEED TO TAKE IT OUT AND REPLACE. ITS A ONE PIECE IT SHOULD BE RED OR BLUE OR SUMTHIN LIKE THAT.
GET THE MODEL NO AND SERIAL NO AND SOURCE AROUND FOR A REPLACEMENT PART. ALWAYS GO WITH THE ORIGINAL PARTS SO IT WOULD LAST LONGER, THEN TO MODIFY AND COST YOU MORE MONEY, WHEN IT SHOULDNT.
most new washers sense water temp and will try to adj final tub water temp by alternately running cold or hot as needed ..most hot settings are not faucet temp but a predetermined temp so if your hot water is 140 degrees coming in the control will switch the cold on to bring final tub water temp down to preset ..which could be as low as 100 degrees the industry's way of energy conservation
