Question about ASUS PC Desktops

2 Answers

I have just built my first desktop PC using an ASUS M2N32-SLI Delux Wireless Edition Motherboard. Unfortunately the Motherboard came without the support CD containing drivers etc. I do have the user guide manual but being new to this game I have little technical knowledge re BIOS etc and I am struggling to understand the initial setup/start up instructions in the manual. Do I in fact need the support CD? I have been to the ASUS download website but found it very confusing as various "versions" of BIOS/drivers etc are mentioned which mean nothing to me. Can I go straight to installing the operating system and bybass the support CD. I am unsure what to do and do not want to ruin through blind ignorance the nice PC which I have built. I have opted for the Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64bit OEM System Builder Pack. Is this system compatible with this Motherboard? Any help would be appreciated as I do not want to mess up my PC at this stage. Thanks in anticipation. Roger

1. Do I in fact need the support CD?

You dont need the support cd, although you might have to update your drivers for your sound card, network card, or wireless card (IF they dont work) from the asus website

2. Can I go straight to installing the operating system and bybass the support CD?

Yes you can. Go into the BIOS and change the boot option to boot from cd first and this will boot from your windows vista cd.

3. Is this system compatible with this Motherboard?

Yes it is compatible with your motherboard.

Asus P5B Delux Motherboard battery removal

Just push the middle of that little piece of metal that's holding the battery in on the left side of the battery slot and it will pop right out.

The battery is the little round metal thing a little bigger than a nickel sitting to the upper left of the ram slots. It will have the number 2032 on it.

Will high density ram work on an ASUS A8N-SLI Motherboard?

Possibly not.

Your best bet is to check the website of your proposed RAM vendor and see what their configurator lists for this board, then you will know if the RAM you want works with the board.

One year old soyo topaz s DYLM24DC Monitor. OK for a 6 months, then my cpu started getting too hot and system crashed multiple times until I figured out about the temp problem. No overclocking. AMD 6000...

I am not 100% sure but I guess that the system board on the monitor has been overheated and therefore will require replacing.

You can get it tested but certified engineer local to you.

Please let me know how you get on. In the mean while I'll do a bit more research into this on your behalf.

Best of luck

I have an asus P5N32-e SLI motherboard. I want to upgrade the memory. Will Patriot PC2 9600 (1200mhz) be suitable.

ooh.. I have a 50/50 shot at getting this right without reading the manual or going onto ASUS' website and looking it up!

I'll say.... no? DDR2 memory sounds quite new, and my board only just supports 1066Mhz RAM. Your mainboard sounds a bit old.

Let me know if i'm right!

Seriously though, I went to, then typed your motherboard in, and then clicked on it.

Here is what it has to say:
- Dual-channel DDR2 800/667/533
I win!

Asus K8V SE Delux

Try to see in the bios, which is the boot sequence. It could be IDE first and SATA second.
Change the SATA to first.
Or see any option that talks about the boot sequence.
