In February '09, my Gateway MX6447 suddenly stopped getting power from the cord and went to battery supply, when the batter supply ran out it shut down. We bought a new power cord, but the notebook won't come back on--no lights--absolutely nothing. The notebook is only 2 yrs. old. Had it checked at a repair shop, they say it is the motherboard. Doesn't make sense to me. Anybody have the solution?

Basic rules say check the fuse in the olug, is it still woking. 2 is check the lead with Multimeter or Voltmeter, 3 is check the battery. I wont go further.

Gateway laptop mx6447 keeps rebooting once the windows screen comes up. Wont allow safe mode either

the most common is that your heat sink is full of dust, so the air blowed from the cooler can't pass through so can't cool the processor ( I'm sure that's it) Please, find a manual how to dismantle and clean the heat sink.
hope this works for you ...

cheers

Unplug the battery and the power cable from the laptop
Now press and hold the power button for 20sec(no battery and no powercable)
connect the power cable back to laptop

Hope it will work!!!!!!!!!

Lights on, no display, doesn't boot

had similar problem on sony vaio. when power depressed, i could hear the cd drive turn a bit, the hard drive light blink once, and that's it. power light would remain on, but nothing else. I took it apart and resoldered all the main chasis grounds on the motherboard and shorted/resetted the board battery(memory/clock) and put everything back together and started up fine. got lucky i guess.

How to take apart gateway mx6447 laptop need to check the power jack and possibly re solder.

usually you need to take out most of the screws you can seen, then pop off the faceplate above the keyboard. then take out the keyboard and then take out another set of screws and components, continue until you get to the power jack.

Mx6447 has no power

Mine wouldn't stay on - press the power button and the lights would flash for a sec, then it would go dead. I removed the fan/heatsink assembly, the CPU, and the memory (2 SODIMMs). I then resocketed the CPU, replaced the fan/heatsink assembly, being careful to tighten the assembly evenly and gradually onto the CPU. I'm not sure why, but it works now!

Power light comes on but no screen or hd activity, gateway mx6447

Sounds like you have a bad motherboard. Bad mother boards give alot of different signs and 1 is no screen display. If it was a a bad HD you would still see something on the screen

Gateway MX6447 Not Charging Correctly

probably the connector on the motherboard has come loose. i have had to solder a couple connectors back on and it isnt really that hard to do, but that is probably the problem.

No power

I have 4 x gateway laptops all with the same fault.

They all work fine from battery but will not charge.

This is a common fault with them, I have been trying to get a copy of the motherboard wiring / circuit diagram.

Also I have traced the fault to possibly 6 components.

will post again with more info when available
