the most common is that your heat sink is full of dust, so the air blowed from the cooler can't pass through so can't cool the processor ( I'm sure that's it) Please, find a manual how to dismantle and clean the heat sink.
hope this works for you ...
had similar problem on sony vaio. when power depressed, i could hear the cd drive turn a bit, the hard drive light blink once, and that's it. power light would remain on, but nothing else. I took it apart and resoldered all the main chasis grounds on the motherboard and shorted/resetted the board battery(memory/clock) and put everything back together and started up fine. got lucky i guess.
usually you need to take out most of the screws you can seen, then pop off the faceplate above the keyboard. then take out the keyboard and then take out another set of screws and components, continue until you get to the power jack.
Mine wouldn't stay on - press the power button and the lights would flash for a sec, then it would go dead. I removed the fan/heatsink assembly, the CPU, and the memory (2 SODIMMs). I then resocketed the CPU, replaced the fan/heatsink assembly, being careful to tighten the assembly evenly and gradually onto the CPU. I'm not sure why, but it works now!
