should you open it, check whether any disconnection with the battery power, there is a small fuse on the battery circuit, check the continuity with a multi meter.

I haven't turned the camera on for a couple of years. I've tried charging the battery, but I can't get it to power up. Do I need to replace battery or is it something else?

If the rechargeable battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced. Rechargeable batteries will fail if stored in a discharged state for long periods.

Really!....you've dropped your camera "countless" other times and now you're concerned because this time, it won't turn on!!! You're not sure what else to do?!!! How about not dropping your camera. How about using the wrist strap. Your dropping luck has run out...your camera does not have nine lives.

No power on Canon SD750

Here are some simple things to try first for a camera that won't power on. They won't work for every case, but they're worth a try:

Vivitar viviCam 5286 issues. Help?

My camera did the same. I had the same brand. What I had to do was buy rechargable batteries. Rayovac[spelling] or Energizer as seemed to be the cheapest and the best. Do not use disposable batteries in these cameras if you can inform anyone else. It will do the same after awhile if they have used it, or if you use rechargable ones, dont go back to disposable ones. Just, disposable ones = ** lol

Camera won't come on and lens doesn't retract

If you bought ni-cad batteries then you may have recharged them incorrectly and they do not have a good charge. Try fresh non-rechargable batteries.
If you bought ni-cads, buy nickel-hydride next time. They do not have a "memory" issue like Nicads.

I think the key here, though, is that it was dropped....

Cuts on then back off

Sound like it was dropped and somone lied about it. Mine got dropped and it behaves in a similar fashon...something about a plastic pin that hold the parts of the telephoto lens together.I had a computer wonk guy lok at mine andit is the little pin on the bottom of the lens assembly inside the ring that snaps on and off. Mine would work if you help up on te bottom of the lens but the it stopped again...lotsa luck
