Question about Toshiba Equium 7100S PC Desktop
Frequently when I am using the computer and the screen goes blank and everything locks. The only way to shut down and restart the computer is to remove the battery.
I have Norton antivirus which I update frequently.
Hi...I have had the same problem with my A210 laptop as well over the last year. The problem is sporadic and it would just happen out of the blue.My daughter has the same laptop and the same problem. The screen would go blank ,but you could tell the computer was still functioning somewhat in the background. The only way to fix it was to reboot and if you were working on anything it was lost.I also recently had another similar problem.I had the laptop set to go to sleep when i shut the lid. This worked great for a year or so.When i opened the lid the screen would come back on and i could continue using the computer where i left off.But recently when i opened the lid the screen would come back on for a few seconds then go blank ,just like it did as described in the first problem above. Not sure why as i had not changed any settings on my computer. It happened every time i closed the lid then opened it.A pain as had to reboot to get it back. Here is the fix my friend discovered.Click on the ATI icon in the taskbar and open up the CATALYST CONTROL CENTER.Make sure the advanced view is selected. Now choose "display options".Put a dot in "Detect whenever catalyst control center is opened",and leave the other 2 spots unchecked.( I had a dot in these 2 places ). Now apply the changes and close it out. I have had no problems since doing this with the screen going blank. Not sure why this worked ,other then the computer was getting confused along the way and shut off the screen.Just be aware that if you hook your laptop to a TV you will have to revisit the ATI setting and change them back.....Hope this helps...Dan

My name is Sydney, I will try to help you with your problem. It is possible that Your norton product has been affected. You should uninstal your norton antivirus product, then run an online scan from this site http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm, please chose full service scan and follow the steps that follow the on screen instructions. this is a safe online scan from microsoft and it is highly recomended. after the scan is finnished re install your antivirus, if you can get Macafee, panda or avast all the better but if you cant you can re install your norton. the reason why i suggest that you get another anti virus is that Norton uses alot of your memory hence making the computer to be slow, but if your ram is more than 512mb then you must be fine.
I hope this solution solves your problem but if the problem persist please dont hasitate to contact us.
At your service Sydney
