    I purchased new ink cartridges for this printer. This new black ink cartridge will not register as having ink in it and every time I go to print I have to wait FOREVER because black is being simulated. The other ink cartridges in the set from HP work just fine. I do not have the receipt. Is there something I can do?

Here is what you can try:

1. Turn off the power and unplug it from power source.
2. Open the right side of the printer (looking at the front).
3. Disconnect, by pulling gently, both white flat ribbon cables off the main circuit board.
4. Plug in the power source and turn the printer on. Wait till you get a error message and push "OK".
5. Unplug the power source.
6. Reconnect the flat ribbon cables by aligning and carefully pushing them into the conectors on the main circuit board.
7. Plug in the power source and turn the printer on (Printer preparing occurred).
8. The 0xc18a0306 error should now be gone.

You have to purchase new inks. If you have refills, it will not detect the ink levels due to the chip on the ink cartridge. When inks have been refilled, There is no way to reset the chip.

I just installed ink and now my computer is telling me I can only print in black because Cyan, Yellow and Magenta are empty, however they are full. I can hear the ink sloshing around and the printer...


While you reinstalled the ink the procedure did not allow the software to detect the difference.'hence I would suggest that the printer be removed and uninstalled,
Use tthe Cd provided to reinstall the software into the printer , Now plug back the printer and the new harware will be detected.
The ink will show correct and the computer to printer communication must be establised.
The test print must prove this out.

Press the OK and Help buttons at the same time. An extended self test page will print out. On that page will be ink levels.

Hp 5180 ink shows empty and won't print but new cartridges were inctalled.


I don't know whether you received any notations besides low ink levels. I found that when my printer wouldn't print, someone suggested resetting it. I don't remember just how I did this, but you might look into this. I thought I would need to buy a new printer because it said I had a fatal error. Apparantly, if the ink levels are left low for too long, the printer has problems.

How to view ink level on the c5180


hello you need to install the full drivers software from HP. go here and download the full software. install it and you should see the level when you prints.

if you have that installed go controlpanel->printers-> preferences and status.

We have an issue of missing or replace yellow cartridge. Please feel free to contact the HP support for replacement of the printer, if the printer is in warranty status. HP would replace the printer.
