Hi and welcome to FixYa,

If you are referring to Yahoo Messenger, it may be needed to be re-installed download installer here. Alternately and to confirm if the Yahoo files are still intact, pls locate and click YahooMessenger.exe in C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger. If it will work, you may need to create another shorcut to your desktop, check Remember my ID & Password, Sign in automatically.

Pls postback with updates and/or any developments.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Glad that it now works. In some instances, it could just be a systems glitch and always a reboot would normally allow Windows to repair itself.

When you are restarting the PC - Press F8 Key till you get the options to Boot
Choose Last Known Good Configuration and load windows
Once you have logged into your PC - try to MSCONFIG

If that does not work, Open Task Manager ( CTRL + ALT + DEL ) key and Click on Services Tab. Click the Services Button below. and it should let you open SERVICES.MSC

Disable all the Antivirus software installed ( double click on the software name and under Startup type - choose Disable )
Also Disable the Windows Installer

Try to access or Download some Virus program to Run or Clean.

Did You Know (#3: Compatibility Issues)

So you just installed a program for Windows 7 which worked on Windows Vista, but now you are coming across nothing but problems. A lot of times these issues can be resolved simply and easily. Here's what you can do. This is to be understood that there is no patch for Windows 7 on the manufacturer's website:
If this program is in your Start Menu, right-click on it and select Open File Location. Right-click on the program you want to use and select Troubleshoot Compatibility.

In similar occasions when you attempt to start up a Setup.exe file, you may be prompted with the message that your current OS (Operating System) is not supported. You can use the same means to 'Troubleshoot Compatibility' in this situation too. This won't always work, but it's better than just sitting there moping, right?

In the Troubleshoot Compatibility Wizard, all you have to do is select the option that says, "This program worked in a previous version of Windows", then hit Next. Windows will do the rest.
Again, this won't always work. In certain situations the program you are using may just not have that compatibility and you may need to look for an alternative program to use to satisfy your needs.

Start up gets to "Loading PBR for descriptor 2... done"

I suspect that the viruses had infected some of the files that windows needed to boot up. The moment you ran the Mcafee, the scanning might have deleted or quarantined those files. That is the reason you're having this Loading PBR message because it is now trying to boot from the network and not from the hard drive. You will need to repair windows using the CDs that came with the computer (the Operating system CD/DVD) and run CHKDSK /R at the screen where it says 'repair your computer using the command prompt". If this does not work, chances are, you may need to reinstall windows and everything and that all information in your hard drive will be wiped out.

Unable to open downloads

I'd say, offhand, that you are looking in the wrong place for the stuff you downloaded. Otherwise, Windows would try to open it and if it couldn't, you'd get an error message.
Try this: What I always suggest to my clients is to create a directory called something like "download" under the root directory (e.g. c:\download) Save your files to that directory. The system should remember this and always save there.
Now all you have to do it go to that directory and you'll be able to see the files and run them.

Windows live messenger sign in error code 81000306

That means Windows Live Messenger is unable to contact the authentication server.

Open up Live Messenger and go to Tools and go to Options. Under Connection Settings, choose Advanced Settings. Make sure there are nothing in the proxy fields. Make sure the SOCKS area has nothing in it and click okay until you get back to the Messenger window and try to sign in.

If that doesn't work and you are running Windows Vista, click start, type: cmd, right-click cmd.exe when it appears under Applications, click Run As Administrator, type the following: "netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled", rress enter, restart your computer”

Hope this helps!

Shutdown/Startup repair issue

hi dear

The process NDIS 5.1 wrapper driver belongs to the Microsoft Windows Operating System.

Description: File NDIS.sys is located in the folder C:\Windows\System32\drivers. Known file sizes on Windows XP are 182912 bytes (94% of all occurrence), 167552 bytes.
The driver can be started or stopped from Services in the Control Panel or by other programs. The file is a Windows core system file. The program is not visible. It is a Microsoft signed file. The service has no detailed description. Therefore the technical security rating is 0% dangerous.

This is a common problem experienced by many people. Just Google NDIS.sys and you'll see what I mean. For some it is onboard sound such as Realtech, others it is IRQL conflicts, and for still others such as yourself the NIC card.

One person worked around it by uninstalling the Windows driver and downloaded the manufacturer's driver.

I am unable to format my Maxtor One Touch III 500gig External Hard Drive. Once i get to 100% using ms disk manager, a message box pops up saying that it was unable to format the hard drive. In linux when i...

If it shows up in windows explorer as a drive, right click it and choose format and choose ntfs as the file format.

Do you know what format it is when you use linux? I dont think you can use a dos command to format an ntfs volume. Your message probably means it cant read FAT or FAT32 because it probably already is NTFS file format.
