Question about Canon PIXMA iP1600 Printer
The thin belt behind the ink cartrages has come detached. I see one wheel to the left but do not know how to reattach it. Any answer would be helpful. Thank you.
To replace the belt, you need to remove the top cover from the printer. Open the ink cover and remove three Phillips head screws. Then turn the printer upside down. The cover is held on by six plastic clips. Canon has helpfully marked these with small arrows. Starting at the front, lever the cover off carefully, taking care because the plastic is very soft. Then release the clips at the rear. The cover can then be removed.
The toothed belt is driven by a wheel at the left hand side. There is a lip on the wheel so you will have to loosen the assembly to replace the belt. Make sure there are no twists in the belt and feed it over the tensioning wheel at the right hand side. Make sure the cartridge carrier moves smoothly. You might like to clean up any dried ink.
Reassembly is the reverse of disassembly. Replace the three screws and you are ready to test.
If the belt keeps coming off, it has probably stretched and will need to be replaced.
