Question about Acer Aspire 5050 Notebook

1 Answer

I bought a new battery, laptop won't boot

The battery looks the same as the old one except it is a 4800mAh instead of the 4000 that came with the unit. The "made in china for ACER" label is on it. It will sit in the bios screen for more than an hour, untill the battery is dead. when i turn on the laptop it says charging, unknown remaining and the yellow light never turns green. when I pull out the power cord the laptop shuts off almost immediatly. but if I restart it and go into the BIOS screen again, it will stay on for an hour or more. This problem started with the new battery, the old battery still works even though I only get 9:00 with it, at least I can walk from one room to the other without shutting my laptop down.

I bought a new battery and when I install it, the battery light is flashing. When I boot up my pc, status of the battery is 255% remaining but only will last 10 mins at most. When i remove the battery, i reinsert it and within 5 mins, the battery light flashes.

The new battery is defective - It needs to be repacked. If you're still close enough to date or purchase(even for an ebay purchase), you should be able to do a swap.

High Quality VGP-BPS13 Battery,Replacement Sony VGP-BPS13 Battery 4800/ 5200/...

Laptop batteries, like all rechargeable battery packs, lose their charging capacity over time. Because new Laptop batteries are expensive, replacing the individual cells inside the battery casing can save a lot of money. However, rebuilding a battery sometimes does not work as expected, so it’s important to be willing to purchase a new laptop battery if the procedure fails.

1、Allow the laptop battery to run down completely. Turn off your laptop, then remove the battery. Write down the model number located on your battery to help identify the type of Li-ion replacement cells you need to purchase.
2、Split open a small section of the laptop battery pack (at the seam) with a screwdriver or craft knife. Continue to pry the plastic case loose moving around the outer edge until the entire top is free. This may take a bit of force.
3、Note the number of cells inside the case (usually four to eight). Write down the part number and voltage information printed on the cell casings. Draw a diagram showing the arrangement of the cells and how they are connected, or take a few photos to help with reassembly.
4、Purchase the correct number and type replacement batteries from online shop such as udtek.com, based on your battery model and cell specifications. Six Li-ion cells typically cost around $30 to $40.
5、Carefully remove each cell using a craft knife and wire cutters as necessary. Each battery pack is different, but the cells are usually wrapped in a plastic casing with metal contacts attached to one end. Lay the metal contacts, wires and casing material aside.
6、Use double-sided tape or a solder gun (only if necessary) to attach the metal contacts to the cells and circuit board. When finished, the old cells should be completely stripped (naked) and the new cells should look like the old ones as much as possible.
7、Place the new cells inside the case, referring to your diagram or photos if necessary. Glue the battery(Compaq DV6000 Battery) pack top back on. Charge the new battery for at least 24 hours before using it.
Tips & Warnings
Keep an eye on the new battery while it charges for the first time. If the contacts are not connected properly, the battery could overheat and cause damage to the laptop.

Dell inspiron 6000 error mesage permament battery failure detected. Replaced the battery and still get the message. Computer won't boot up

Tons of people have this problem with dell computers sadly, the motherboard is refusing it's new part. The reason they do this is so you send in the computer to their tech dept so they can make more money pretty much :p Remember, most new tech is meant to break like this, and usually leaves the tech dept in beta.

The only real fix is to replace the motherboard, or buy a new laptop.

Or you're having really bad luck and the second battery you bought is a dud too.

Is the new cord/charger/transformer the EXACT same power specs? When your "dog ate your charger", it may have shorted out something in the Laptop? Was it plugged it when your dog ate it?

I have a Satellite A215-S4807. The original battery went completely dead (possibly from this problem), so I just went out and got a new one with a 4800mAh, which is slightly higher than the 4000 it came...

There is something wrong with the "recharger" components on the computer's motherboard.
Instead of charging the battery, and then stopping the charging process, it is "draining" your batteries.

Take your Toshiba to the nearest qualified Toshiba service location, to get it fixed.

Gateway MX3231 won't boot and I just bought a new power adapter

Based on what you have stated, it looks to be your AC connector that is loose or broken from the motherboard. This connector just needs to be soldered back onto the motherboard. Have a technician look at this before you start spending money on a new battery.
