Often when your needle starts to shudder, the thread is caught on something somewhere along the sewing path. Turn off your machine, change your needle, take all of the thread out of the machine and rethread it. Then remove your bobbin to make sure that there is nothing stuck in the bobbin case, or in the area where you insert your bobbin into the machine. Look around the sewing area to see if something looks out of place. After you insert a new needle and rethreaded your machine, and before you turn the machine back one, try using the wheel to make a few stitches manually. Watch your sewing thread to make sure it is feeding evenly. If the needle does not move up and down correctly, or if you hear a grinding or bumping sound, you probably need to take the machine to be repaired. Otherwise, turn your machine back on. If the error message is gone, try sewing slowly for several inches - if all seems well, increase the speed a little at a time. If anything seems off to you while you sew - stop sewing immediately and look very carefully to see if you can find a problem.
An electronically controlled sewing machine has a liquid crystal display as well as a needle bar rocking mechanism for driving a needle bar to which a needle is attached, a thread take-up lever driving mechanism, a needle thread catcher and so on. One of three kinds of animation information stored in a message memory of the sewing machine is selectively read in, and is presented on the display according to an error message display control or a guide message display control when any error/guide message appears on the display. Therefore, even when an operator sees the display with less attention, the presented animation information attracts the operator to the display when any error/guide message appears on the display, resulting in that the operator will not miss the displayed important error/guide message.

You may have a problem with the type of needle, if you are using a singer needle, they usually do not work well in other machines. I would suggest a Smetz needle.

with the thread bunching up, it is possible that the tension is not right, but more likely the machine is not threaded properly.

Check that the LCD screen adjustment has not been dimmed or darkened. If that is not the case, then a component is or has most likely failed.

No digital display on the screen and will not sew...was sewing along very nicely, changed thread and now have this problem?

It may be something you can fix if you can find a dealer who will tell you what the code means and how to re-set it. The backward and forward C are not a normal code. Does your book have a section for error codes under "trouble shooting?"

My Janome memory craft 8000 will only sew backwards and the screen shows step motor error. the machine is 19 years old. Is this fixable?

step motor error may mean the embroidery arm is out of position gently push it back home towards the machine and see if this helps. If the mother board is gone, they will not be able to replace it as its so old, but you may be able to get an 8000 or 9000 on ebayso you can still use your discs if you don't want to get a new machine
